Lake Huron Its average depth is 59 meters (195 feet) and its maximum depth is 229 meters (750 feet).
The only aircraft capable of employing the AIM-54 Phoenix is the F-14, and only the Iranians still fly the Tomcat. They reverse-engineered the AIM-54 and now have the Fakour-90 knockoff version.

I would think a burst of 20mm cannon fire would work at 0.01% of the cost.
Wouldn’t work for the high altitude balloons. 1) No way to get the gun there and stabilized. Too much relative airspeed between fighter and balloon. Aircraft must fly at high true airspeed to maintain altitude when high.
2) Wouldn’t work anyway. High altitude balloons have sustained a large number of punctures and even missile hits to the envelope without much of a descent. Almost no pressure differential between inside and outside the envelope so gas mostly stays put.

Re #50, test they do. Apparently 25mm cannon shells are not effective. For some reason, these UFOs are not visible to the naked eye. We’re going to start war of the worlds.

Some Sources are reporting that the Press Conference for The Pentagon on the “UFO” downed over Lake Huron has been pushed back to 7:15pm EST but so far I haven’t seen any Defense Officials confirm this.

They are far past our military capabilities and it would be like when we encountered the primitive and backward Native Americans who had sharpened stone arrowhead and wooden spears while on horseback and we had rifles, pistols and cannon and soon Iron Horse railroads.
Some info was posted about depth of Lake Huron, add this detail, Main Duck Island is located about 40 miles south of the larger islands in northern Lake Huron. It is on the Canadian side of the border through the lake. So around there the depth may not be all that great. I think the island is uninhabited and a wildlife preserve of some kind.
