President Herzog: 'Israel is on the verge of a constitutional and social collapse'

Israel’s president called for greater dialogue between the Right and Left, warning Sunday that the country is descending into a major social crisis.

In a televised address Sunday evening, President Isaac Herzog reiterated his call on the Netanyahu government and the Opposition to reach a compromise on the proposed judicial reform plan.

“Some of the things I am going to say tonight may not be pleasant to one side or the other. Over the past few weeks, I have worked with all my strength to bring about a broad agreement [for a compromise]. If one side manages to force its [position] over the other, and it doesn’t matter who prevails, Israeli society as a whole will lose.”

“We need to stop this fiery polarization before it burns us all. We are on the verge of a constitutional and social collapse. I see and hear the protests; a great mass of patriots who are dedicated to the fate of this nation and the state.”

“We are on the verge of civil violence. And in extreme situations like this, like some of my predecessors, I refuse to stand idly by.”

Leftards are having a hissy fit, carrying songs and singing signs. No one's wrong, when everybody's right. Stop children. What's that song. Everybody look, fat lady in a thong.

For a change? BFD. Stand idly by, Herzog. Stand idly by.

I think they need more diversity over there. Open the borders, change their flag, tear down their statues, that should do it.

There is no “middle ground” with a leftist.

In negotiating with Hitler, would the “middle ground” have been, “Okay, you can kill *half* the Jews. But no more!” (with self-righteous finger wag)

OK. You’re right. He should have shouted “STOP THE STEAL!” and “FJB!” That would have served the interests of the State of Israel and its people. Things could have gone much more wrong, but instead he swallowed his pride and sucked up to a known enemy of Israel, because he knew that the steal would not be stopped, and this was the government he had to deal with, which was historically hostile and only wanted an excuse to be even more hostile.

Bibi could have followed Bolsonaro’s example, but he decided a$$-kissing was the better choice.

Sounds like Ahab and Jezebel are in charge, and they need another Elijah to come.

Yes. Unfortunate. But he knows Brandon from before, and knows what to expect. Remember the state dinner in 2010 that he was deliberately 90 minutes late for, because the City of Jerusalem announced a new building project by a Jewish developer was approved, which he characterized as “making lebensraum” and was mad that this was complicating the “final solution” for Jerusalem that “we” are working on, and also he was mad because they wouldn’t cook “Hawaiian pork” for him. Crass and nasty much? This was Brandon in 2010. He hasn’t improved any since.

Ok fair enough. It’s just that many expect more from Bibi. Making “nice” with the Brandon Gangster-in-Chief didn’t turn out so well did it?

I admit I don’t know the ground game in Israel and its US network as well as Bibi does although I have close friends there, who by the way loved Trump more than many Americans. Recall Trump was nominated for FOUR Nobel Peace Prizes.

Just wish Bibi had better options or could see or find them. I think at core, Bibi’s more a senior military-minded jock than a brilliant businessman.

Trump often does the same complimenting people that many grow to detest, only to find out later he cut a deal behind the scenes that make us smile whether we want to or not. Trump is a Master at the Art of the Deal. Bibi, not so much.

Bibi should have called Trump for a pow-wow session. Instead he folded.

Pray that some fine Israeli new blood comes to the forefront to set the stage better.

The Left simply reserves the right to use corrupted institutions like the judiciary to impose its policies by fiat when it loses elections. This ensures that major policy changes only ratchet to the left, never to the right. The new government is Israel is tired of the endless lawfare used by the left to go after Netanyahu and others on the right.

This is why the recent decisions overturning Roe and on gun rights are such a threat to the Left here, as they delegitimize the entirety of the Left's bogus "substantial due process" hocus pocus and the attempts to write the 1st and 2nd Amendments out of the Constitution.

I’m no fan of Bibi’s. Didn’t expect anything more from him, because he’s always a “reed,” never an “oak” when it comes to dealing with American presidents, especially those on the left. I prefer oaks, but there are none available.

“Bibi should have called Trump for a pow-wow session. Instead he folded.”

Maybe they spoke briefly. I don’t know. Never heard Trump complain about his treatment, just his supporters. But if they did not pow-wow, they should have.

“Pray that some fine Israeli new blood comes to the forefront to set the stage better.”

I’ve been waiting. Had high hopes for Bennett, which he totally dashed. There is not much trusting right-wing politicians here. Begin could have been great, but look how he turned out. Same thing with Sharon. About the only right-wing politician who didn’t fold like an accordion was Shamir, but he only held the line, didn’t go on offense.

“Okay, you can kill *half* the Jews. But no more!”

That would have been the moderate position.
