Boyfriend of Adriana Kuch can’t stop crying, re-watching bullying video

BAYVILLE, New Jersey — The heartbroken boyfriend of bullied New Jersey teen Adriana Kuch can’t stop crying and re-watching an online video of the cruel attack that led to her suicide, his mom and Adriana’s dad told The Post on Friday.

Jason Lopez, 16, is haunted by the thought he might have been able to prevent Adriana, 14, from taking her own life after the humiliating beating she suffered at Central Regional High School in Berkeley Township, said a worried Wendy Lopez, 50.

“He’ll wake up in the middle of the night screaming and crying,” Lopez told The Post, adding he feels a devastating spiral of grief and guilt.

“[Adriana] called him the night before [her death] and he wished that he picked up the phone and he didn’t,” Lopez recounted.

“He called her back five minutes later and she never called back..That’s the last time [they spoke].,” she added.

The young lovebirds had been dating for nearly two months when Kuch was brutally bullied as the pair walked down a hallway on campus Feb. 1.

A video of the attack was later posted online, further tormenting the teen, and she took her own life two days later.

“[Jason] said to me that it would have been nice to grow up when me and his father did in the 80s and 90s, when you don’t have this extra online stuff to go along with being in high school,” Lopez told The Post.

“He just wished Adriana had told him more because she kinda kept it all to herself.”

If only Adriana had known about Jayla...

Maybe if she knew that this wrestler (Jayla) had the same experience, was unable to defend herself, too, against a group of girls at the same school, and was videotaped and bullied, too, Adriana would’ve had someone to talk to.

Agree to a point. They are becoming more knowledgeable about life and the world at an earlier age. The don’t have the maturity or life skills to process it and to mentally cope with it all. In a sense it is doing damage to their psyches at such an early age that their emotions are simultaneously blunted and heightened. In essence, they are psychologically overwhelmed. It’s not sustainable and we will see more violence, drug addiction, mental illness abd suicides.

It goes well beyond so called “Bullying”.....clearly criminal assault with intentions to harm and by a gang no less. Seeing happenings like that should change everyone who views this and others like it.

School kids are no longer protected from within nor without the school systems. These ‘monster’ kids need to be kicked out of the schools systems... period. Spend some jail time which increases based on their behavior. Otherwise they're just heading to the next wave of adult career criminals.

I blame the “progressives” who have turned our schools into hell holes.

That was no bullying, that was flat out felonious assault.

Good point. It makes me wonder just how much is hidden behind the "bullying" label. It feels like it's become a convenient way to ignore what's really going on.

Am I reading this right? The girl that was attacked and beaten was also given a 10-day suspension?

I have not watched the video and refuse to do so. There is far too much pain, suffering and insanity in this world already and I suspect that if I were to watch it I probably won’t get a decent night’s sleep for weeks or months.

So terribly sad and preventable if parents paid better attention to their children’s online habits and postings, but I am glad to see those feral bullies are being prosecuted.

Far too many parents simply don’t ‘care to’ pay attention to their children. ...neither do our criminal laws stay current with a more and more dangerous society as a whole. Even parents make scenes and fools of themselves.

I only could handle a small portion of the video - the photos were sufficient. Difficult to watch.

I think so. Crazy, right? Schools have had that policy for a long time. They suspend all the students involved, even if one was a victim of an assault.

Another girl, who was assaulted at the same school, also was suspended for 10 days last year. She challenged the suspension because her arm was in a sling when she was attacked, and the school reduced the suspension to 2 days. When her story hit the news, the same superintendent threw her under the bus, too.

If he has an uncle or cousin who is a combat veteran, the two of them need to have a solid, private conversation.

“The girl was 14. At that age she shouldn’t have had a smart phone or a boyfriend.”

Exactly. What were the parents thinking? A boyfriend at 14 years old ... ridiculous!

The suicides aren’t because of social media.
They’re because of terrible demon kids with horrible parents.

No kids shouldn’t have soc media but it’s no more to blame for a suicidr than a gun is.

That’s what the article says, but it is unclear whether for this, or the previous incident.

Zero-tolerance policies tend to work that way.

“Jayla initially was suspended for 10 days, which is Central Regional’s policy for any student involved in a fight. However, Hahn contested the suspension, because Jayla’s arm was in a sling, leaving her unable to fight back. The suspension was reduced to two days, Hahn said, with the district saying it was for “noncompliance,” though Hahn said it was unclear what the reason was for that claim.

“Hahn said the school won’t do anything to protect Jayla, and she’s been fighting with them since the incident. While one student involved in the fight was suspended for 10 days, the other was not suspended at all.”
