New York City retail workers told the Post that they are fed up with the brazen shoplifters who hit their stores and are scared to step in — as complaints for store thefts soar to record levels.

Shoplifting continues to run unchecked in NYC and stores like the Modern State party supply store on 3rd Ave and 72 St get hit daily and owner Louis Weissbart says its’s only getting worse.

They’re not stealing food or other essentials from me .. it’s all discretionary stuff. They steal toys like crazy. They are stealing to make money.

Weissbart said he doesn’t even call the police anymore when someone shoplifts from his store ..

He raged over the NYPD’s inaction and blamed much of the uptick on justice reforms that have created a “revolving door” for criminals. He said he hasn’t seen any change since the mayor’s retail summit last December.

shoplifters know the law and will be back on the street in just a few hours even if the cops decide to arrest them.

When they get their social communism is when they will see law and order....they ain't going to like it.

Life will be hard in the gulag. A good day for them will be when they manage to steal someone's blanket to keep from freezing to death...

Someone once coined the term, "Food Desert". That's pretty much the way it's going to end up.. Ether that or, like the old days, hang'm like horse thieves and cattle rustlers.. I kind'a like that last choice.

i worked with a kid whose parents were drug addicts- they used to steal from the grocery to sell the stuff out of their trunk in DC.
( NOT to feed their kids, mind you, for drug $$)

I’m in no big city and walked into the local Walmart for the first time in perhaps a year. I was browsing for a few things and was already debating walking out due to not finding what I needed and higher prices than a store down the road (I did walk out).

Notable observation while I was walking through:

The socks were behind locked glass.

Probably so, but B & M stores (particularly mom and pops) “taking the hit” is not going to last long.

When they stop generating the cash to pay their vendors and employees it is game, set and match.

At one time, you paid “protection money” to the local mobster to have shoplifters taken around back and their fingers broken.

I work in NYC and see this for myself.

The city is full of Rite-Aid, Duane Reed and CVS convenience store/pharmacies.

They keep things like razors, hair styling products, and even toothpaste under lock and key, where you need to fetch a clerk to open up the case for you if you want something.

Nevertheless, some of the Black "customers" will still take what is not under lock and key and walk right out with it. They will not be stopped. Anybody else, White, Hispanic, or Asian, will almost certainly be stopped and likely placed under arrest.

This is just the way it is in NYC these days.

I hope those who can shoplift with impunity enjoy it while they can. Eventually, there will be a day of reckoning.
