Gov. Joe Lombardo declared a state of emergency Friday night after a leak was detected Thursday in a pipeline that supplies fuel to Las Vegas.
The leak of about 205 gallons of gasoline from an above-ground pipeline was detected at a pumping station in the Watson neighborhood of Long Beach, California.
The Kinder Morgan energy company shut down its 566-mile CalNev pipeline to investigate a release, according to a statement from the company. The pipeline supplies gasoline, diesel and jet fuel to locations throughout California and Nevada, including Las Vegas, according to the company’s website.
“To avoid any unnecessary shortages, I strongly urge all Las Vegas residents to avoid panic buying while awaiting repair timeline updates,” Lombardo said in a statement.
Clark County also declared a fuel emergency late Friday.
“This leak has not impacted the supply of fuel, but rather the method in which this fuel normally comes into Southern Nevada,” a county statement read.
Lombardo’s declaration directed the Nevada Department of Agriculture to request from the Environmental Protection agency, “any necessary fuel waivers to expand the available fuel options.”
According to the declaration it will expire in 15 days unless it is renewed.

Once again it seems the coup storm trooper army is out destroying our ability and moving their agenda
It's not even here, it's in that state to the left of us...
Nevada Ping!
To add your name to the growing Nevada ping list, FReepmail me...
Now it’s time to use all those bikelanes those greenies love.
The potential problem appears to be how long the pipeline will be shut down, along with panic buying. Affecting unleaded and diesel. Jet fuel not affected.
NV feeling the squeeze.....with its water, and, now, fuel supply.
Is a “potential” problem a State of Emergency?
Politicians are entirely too fond of that sudden rush of power declaring a state of emergency gives them.
Declare a state of emergency. Then tell everyone to act normally.
I started reading that the emergency was for 205 gallons but the emergency is prompted by the response of shutting down the pipeline.
“205 gallons is a state of emergency???”
It seems a bit extreme, but they have to shut down that pipe to fix it. So, it isn’t the spilled fuel, but the shut down that’s causing the emergency.
The problem is probably that California doesn’t have enough electric trucks to bring in the gasoline. If it was coming from a state that fully allowed diesel trucks, there wouldn’t be an issue.

A day or so to inspect, test and bless the fix.
Days, weeks, months do the paperwork, get permission to fix, fix, write the reports, impact studies and to get California's slow walked permission to turn the flow back on.
States of Emergency are declared in advance of hurricanes and other storms.
Fair point.
“Days, weeks, months do the paperwork, get permission to fix, fix, write the reports, impact studies and to get California’s slow walked permission to turn the flow back on.”
And knowing all that, he was probably right to declare an emergency
Also a fair point.
It’s just a leak. Don’t read anything into it. Probably caused by a little squirrel gnawing on the steel pipeline. Or maybe spy balloon shot at it with a laser beam? The jernlist never really goes into what may have caused the leak but rest assured it isn’t terrorism. Unless white supremacists are involved. Then, domestic terrorism. The scariest movement on the planet.
No word yet on the EPA waiver...
Long Beach is right on the coast, a scratch in the paint, salt air, and a few years of slipshod inspections and rust wins the battle.
Rust never sleeps....
