n a small San Joaquin Valley neighborhood surrounded by miles of nut and citrus groves, six electric vehicle charging stations sit abandoned. Their parking spots are empty, their screens shattered. Over five short months and with nearly $2 million, the state powered a fleet of Teslas and Chevy Bolts that lent residents of this isolated community a transportation lifeline. Then one day at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the cars vanished.

A $2 million dollar scam to provide farmworkers with Teslas. Cap and trade takes money from California industry and taxpayers then blows it on pie in the sky giveaways like this. Where's my flying unicorn?
Cars didn’t really “vanish”——the fireballs were seen by planes in the sky all night. Toasted marshmallow Teslas were smoldering for hours. (joking——until they locate them).
Hmmmmm! A caulifourkneeyuh neighborhood surrounded by nutz????????? Uh, and? 🤔😂👍
So expensive cars just disappeared. It doesn’t take Sherlock Holmes to figure this one out.
What a stupid f’n idea. 2 mill for nothing and the chicks for free.
Our government just sucks.
I’m not giving the SacBee website a hit. Were the cars open to anyone to use?
shocking...
Wow. Imagine my shock.

Up on blocks with all the expensive parts missing.
> What a stupid f’n idea. <
I’d expect nothing but stupid f’n ideas from liberals. They do only what feels good at the moment. There is no thought as to how things will eventually work out.
We see this on a grand scale with their current push for “green energy”. There is no thought as to where all this new green energy will come from. It’s magic, I guess.
Nothing is more Californian than state taxpayers having to buy Teslas for illegal alien farmworkers.
Beat that, Texas.
Wasn’t car thieves, wasn’t aliens, the stupid Kalifornia bureaucracy just came and took them back. Alleged explanation: they might spread the CCPVirus, (oh the horror, the horror).
How do cars just vanish?
Something doesn’t add up here. If a car disappears, presumably stolen, don’t the owners report to police and their insurance company?
Thanks!
“Through the program, community members could volunteer to drive through an app set up by a private ridesharing company called Green Commuter. Rides cost passengers between $5 and $10, depending on distance.
“At a total $1.9 million, the project was funded with $749,800 from California Air Resources Board (CARB) using revenue from the state’s cap-and-trade program, which sells carbon pollution permits to industrial greenhouse gas emitters. Green Commuter contributed $1.1 million, and the Valley Air District chipped in the rest.
“Throughout the region, 9 electric vehicles and 30 charging stations were placed in Cantua Creek, Delhi and Atwater. The goal was to improve transportation access and electric vehicle use in rural areas, plus offer a way for those driving community members to make some extra income.”
