Ukraine could soon face a tough decision over tactically withdrawing from Bakhmut in the eastern Donetsk region, as the fate of the city hangs in balance.
Bakhmut has been intensely fought over by Russian and Ukrainian forces for months, with Moscow viewing its capture as a strategic goal and a way to cut Ukrainian supply lines in Donetsk. Russian officials recently claimed that Moscow’s forces have almost entirely encircled Bakhmut. On Wednesday, one special forces commander said Russian troops now occupied several streets in the city.
Ukraine disputes how far Russia has advanced into Bakhmut, although it concedes – in line with Western defense analysts – that Russian forces are edging in on the city, after making small but incremental advances in the surrounding area.

I admit I haven’t cared enough to follow this whole debacle closely, so maybe my observation isn’t valid.
But I keep hearing that the Russians are “losing” and the Uke’s are “winning”.
The Russians breached the border and, for all intents and purposes, are still there and show no signs of leaving. That doesn’t sound like losing - see Joe’s pullout of Afghanistan for what losing looks like.
The Uke’s are begging for armor and air support in their own country. I can only assume, then, that they don’t have air superiority within their own borders. If that’s winning, someone should let the Germans know, because it sounds a lot like the last few months of the Third Reich.
As a civilian, maybe there’s some strategic or tactical magic I’m failing to see here. I don’t see any scenario where things get better for Ukraine from here on out and a lot of scenarios where things get a helluva lot worse, and that’s not even considering the world-wide shitshow that could erupt. The only better time to negotiate a deal than now was six months ago, in my admittedly half-informed opinion.

Ukes elect grid is in tatters. Russkies’ is fully intact.
Ukes are on their 9th or 10th mobilization for replacement troops. They’ve resorted to snatching teenagers and old men off the street. Russkies get of thousands of volunteers in addition to their single mobilization last November. Ukes send their new guys ASAP, with an expected survival time of 4 hours; russkie replacements are still in training and only now are sending their trained recruits. Russkies are shooting 60k artillery shells per day vs. 6k for the Ukes; Ukes launch 3-4 HIMARS missiles vs russkies’ 100 per sortie, several times a week. Ukes have no air force. Uke suffered 75% casualties from their “fully operational NATO death star” beginnings. Russkies churn out 100’s of brand new tanks and howitzers per month; Ukes still begging for 10 here, 20 there, and little actually arrives.
The Uke population is about 1/2 what it was a few years ago; most of those that left are young; few will ever return - to what would they be going back to? Uke / NATO strategy is effectively depopulating Uke-land of their remaining men. Even if myopic in intent, the entirely predictable result is evil.
It is not physically possible for the Ukes to defeat the russkies. IT CAN’T HAPPEN. Stick with your logic. It’ll cut through so much of this nonsense.

Well, the Ukie government just recently approved the registration of 16 year olds…the Zelensky ( Hitler) Youth? No surprise here with all the Neo Nazi’s entrenched in Zelensky’s government.

The Ukie .gov just authorized their 12th mobilization. Sounds like winning to me, or so I am being told.
The captured ones will be fortunate - out of the reach of the Piano Man.
