As the Russian army barreled toward Kyiv in the early days of Russia's wider war on Ukraine last February, the call went out for volunteers in the besieged capital city. These volunteers—thousands of them—formed a new territorial-defense unit. A year later, that unit—the 241st Territorial Defense Brigade—is in the thick of the fighting in what is, at present, the bloodiest sector of the wider war. The snowy hills and ruined city blocks in and around Bakhmut, 30 miles north of Donetsk, the seat of the separatist Donetsk People’s Republic in eastern Ukraine's Donbas region.
The Russian army and its allies from The Wagner Group, a shadowy mercenary firm, since last spring have been trying—and so far failing—to capture Bakhmut, a city with a pre-war population of 70,000 that, aside from abutting a few roads, has little strategic value.
But it's in Bakhmut that Wagner has chosen to prove its human-wave assaults—thousands of under-trained ex-convicts throwing themselves at Ukrainian positions—could work, and where the Russian army has chosen to begin escalating its operations in Donbas in anticipation of what observers expect will be much wider winter offensive.

“A Brigade of Ukrainian Moms, Dads, Bloggers And Retirees Is Resisting Russia’s Human Wave Attacks In Bakhmut”
Not too hard to resist something that doesn’t exist.
...and the thing is, people will continue to buy Forbes (and if they don’t, the government will keep them running).
And in other news....
Before the nazis arrived in WW2,
the citizens of Kiev dug trenches by hand around the city.
Every time I see these articles, all I see is propaganda. I just miss it. The Ukrainians been very good at promoting their war effort, but it’s not international interest, and we need to get ourselves out of there.
I am seriously tired of Siri auto correct. I said it’s not in our interest and I dismiss all of this propaganda as propaganda. As far as I’m concerned, Ukrainian and Russian can kill each other off entirely. It will make no difference to us in the United States. We’ve wasted enough money and equipment, and risk on American lives already.
now that’s a country that’s committed
Russia is gonna get slaughtered this year ... they cannot win this
What's the status of your Occupied Canada these days?
Any hope of freedom there?
Are you part of any kind of underground resistance?
Just like before WWII when the Fins gave the Russian Army a bloody nose, until they were drowned in a flood of Slave blood.
Putin is trying the same tactic.
Wow. Think of what we could do protecting our borders. Ah, the Super Bowl’s coming up.
The 404th Blogger Brigade.
Fingers crossed?
Not this crap again.
consider - last spring, they were able to repulse a full Russian assault on Kiev ... and that was before they had good Western arms ...
now they’re more battle-hardened, more used to Russian tactics, and with the World’s best weapons and intel helping them ... hell yeah, Russia will get slaughtered (again)
The Russians used their best units, VDK paratroopers and Spetsnaz. But now they're replaced by poorly motivated conscripts.
