When watching the shoot down it appeared that the rocket hit the payload instead of the balloon. Had it been successfully targeted at and hit the balloon itself the payload might have come down in a more recoverable single piece instead of a gazillion pieces scattered over 7 or 8 miles.

Let’s be glad that the guys that “recovered” the debris from the TWA 800 shoot down are probably gone by now.

“The U.S. military has started a recovery mission for debris from the Chinese spy balloon that was shot down by a U.S. fighter jet on Feb. 4”

Sounds like our military either operates on banker’s hours, or they wanted to give China first dibs at recovery.

...why am I not surprised?

1. Early on it traveled over wilderness. No impact to people on the ground if it were
shot down.

2. Coordination with Canada when it was showdown off the coast of SC?

“this balloon was able to penetrate our airspace”

Because Canada did not shoot down the balloon.

If their plan was to shoot it down off the coast, then there was plenty of time to get ships in position. The plan and options should have been in place before the balloon even left the Pacific Ocean. No ships were in position. Therefore, the whole thing was just made up on the fly. What a horrible regime we live under. Even better. Why was it not shoot down over the Pacific?

I can’t go into more detail, but we were able to study and scrutinize the balloon and its equipment.
However it’s in a secured area right next to Joe’s Corvette for his inspection of data.

“We need to know how this balloon was able to penetrate our airspace, what sensitive material it was able to capture, and how we will prevent future breaches,”

It's a good thing they didn't shoot it down over land, where there would have been a much better chance of recovering this information.

They will show the world some torn up material like the UFO in Roswell and report that there is nothing here to see, no threat to national security “ because the CCP already got the info they need” The recover task force I heard was 3 to 4 days away from the site, so do they expect this crap to be floating waiting to by picked up, HOW STUPID DO THEY THINK WE ARE?
