New York City’s black population has dropped 9% since 2000, with the exodus apparently accelerating after the eight disastrous de Blasio years. Advocates and officials wonder why, but there’s nothing unique about it: Black Americans mainly want the same things all Americans want.
The decline has been steepest among young black New Yorkers: The city’s number of black children and teens cratered by a fifth from 2010 to 2020. That means families are heading out — and many heading south.
Partly, it’s the city’s insane housing market, which is brutal on growing families. All the rent laws benefit the “haves”: people who don’t need to move. Hoping your kids can have a room of their own? The median rent for an available two-bedroom apartment in New York City is $4,859; in Atlanta, $2,450.
Education is another reason to leave: Most public schools in minority neighborhoods are disasters. That’s why there’s such an enormous appetite for public charter schools — but the teachers unions (more “haves”) use their political power to prevent the charter sector from growing to meet the demand. Our way or the highway, says the United Federation of Teachers, and parents determined to do better for their kids hit the road.

The left is so divisive. Successive governors of NY, who should be the governors of all the people, have stated publicly that conservatives are not welcome in their state. We have complied. The consequences are obvious.

Decent black people don’t want to live among all the gangs and violence anymore than the rest of us do.
Black flight. The liberals can only do so much to keep them on the plantation. But since the fugitive slave laws were declared unconstitutional they haven’t been able to stop blacks from fleeing the hellholes liberals create.
Why do liberals find each other sane?
The article says blacks are moving to the South. Atlanta likely one of the most common cities. I’d imagine other historically black cities as well.

That’s crazy. My mortgage for a 3BR/2Bath house in North Dakota is $650/month. I have zero interest moving back to a big city.
Declining schools in black areas are caused by the feral behavior of blacks themselves. There is a strong anti-education current among blacks. Achieving academic excellence is considered “acting white”; students earning good grades are routinely ridiculed, called names like “oreo”, etc. Criminal thugs, rap stars, and athletes are their heroes, not great statesmen, scientists, or entrepreneurs. There are far more disciplinary problems in schools with a majority of black students which takes away teacher time for teaching. I saw myself while teaching that the first students to act out were nearly always black. So I have little sympathy for their complaints about “bad schools in black areas”. They did that to themselves.
"Progressives" virtue-signal anti-racism, but they consider blacks and anyone who isn't like them to be inferiors.
The far left progressives are actually lily white. Nearly seven-in-ten Progressive Left (68%) are White adults, making this group less racially and ethnically diverse than the other Democratic-oriented groups.
Yet, these Dems hold not only extremist views on race, but views more extreme than those held by more racially-diverse Dem groups.
They live in enclaves in cities, prefer going to museums over going to the range, and think religion is sophistry. Their policies and language all reek of a Superiority Complex. Welcome to the Upper West Side.
I get Affinity bias. We all have it. I'd probably be rejected by an Anarcho-Syndicalist Commune and the feeling would be mutual.
But Erika Donalds' experience is worth remembering when dunderheads say WE are all haters. And while I haven't walked in her shoes, I can tell you, having worked in Manhattan and mingled with all sorts of people, when "progressives" think you're "one of them," behind closed doors their mask slips and (using affluent code language) and you see how they REALLY feel about the races. It's downright ugly.
The exodus is totally explainable. Scratch a progressive, find a Klansman in a suit and tie or lab coat
We know all about the underclass but conservatives need more to remember that the majority of the black community wants what we want: safe neighborhoods, decent schools, affordable housing, opportunity to make a living, government to leave us the hell alone.
I would bet black New Yorkers have family in the south. That’s a magnet.
