I definitely think that watching the US response to learn their priorities when their air space is invaded was part of that.
They are testing the waters aside from spying out our weaknesses.

The Chinese also proved to themselves that they could use such large balloons to smuggle large materials (e.g., small nuclear devices) into CONUS and parachute them in remote areas for later retrieval by operatives. Same concept for pathogens and disease vectors.

If the US won’t protect its own airspace, what is the expectation that it will actively work with Taiwan on protecting their airspace?
The interviewer is an airhead - asking silly questions, then asking a question and immediately before getting an answer, asking a contradictory question.
Neither knows anything about surveillance - Chang gives stock answers as usual. Can’t blame him as the questions are so dumb.
PS If you watch the video be sure to bring plenty of eye bleach. Fortunately, after the first few minutes, it descends into unwatchable territory, and you can skip the rest.
