A New York middle school is apologizing after serving students with a meal on the first day of Black History Month that was deemed to be culturally insensitive. Administrators at Nyack Middle School say that the hot lunch menu was changed by the vendor without their knowledge on February 1st, the first day of Black History Month, to include chicken and waffles with a watermelon dessert which the school’s principal called an "unfortunate situation", The Journal News reported.

I sometimes consider myself a lost child of the south because I love southern cooking. And then you go and post that and I know I'm a lost child of the south. It is very hard to find RC and a moon pie where I am, and now I really want one.
They should have served mud pies, mud burgers and mud pudding.
I think C&W was first served in Harlem. Seems like a reasonable thing to serve for BHM.
So the Irish love potatoes and the polish love cabbage, the Puerto Ricans love rice and beans and the Germans love weinersntizel but the blacks are offended if you serve them food they love that’s racist!

When did fried chicken and waffles become a “black” thing? I’m white and I love both fried chicken and waffles. I also like salad greens and cornbread. Watermelon is one of my favorite hot weather treats. Does that mean I should check to see if I have black ancestors? I’m confused as to why people are offended.
They’re mentally-ill, get away with it, and want M-O-N-E-Y for reparations, for which they have zero connection.
Every race and ethnicity has their own food prefs, and for the melanin-heavies to be ‘offended’, is mentally-ill, and taught at home.

A good country meal like that will hit the spot for me and just about anybody except the most stuck-up dilettantes.
I imagine the kids loved the lunch. What kid doesn’t like fried chicken, waffles, & watermelon? Those who criticize this lunch as racist are themselves racists & nuts, too.
