The Federal Aviation Administration has closed airspace in parts of North Carolina and South Carolina. All operations at Charleston, Myrtle Beach and Wilmington airports have been paused for national security initiatives.
The alerts are in effect until 2:45 p.m.
The balloon was spotted Saturday over parts of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Northern Greenville county in South Carolina.

Even for Biden this is beyond stupid. Only after the balloon has completed its spying mission over the USA will he shoot it down. Why bother at all? Even with rigged elections this guy may have trouble “winning” again.

Massive, in the sense of being heavy, I’ll agree. Massive, in terms of displacement of air is another thing. The stratospheric balloons flown by the US are the size of a football field and can lift around 2 tons. There are at least two above CONUS right now and at least one over Europe.

1. What if we try and fail or miss?
2. It’s full of helium, won’t explode.
3. Poking small holes with bullets will make slow leaks but not instant collapse
4. Can it repair leaks or keep flying with them?
5. What countermeasures does it have?
6. What’s in the payload and what happens if it comes down in a populated area?
7. If we wait til it’s over the ocean why even bother shooting it down?
8. Especially if the payload is lost and we learn nothing about it?
Maybe not as simple as you think.
