This is a total lie and not even remotely believable. It was over Montana and North Dakota over wide open unpopulated areas. There was no danger in shooting it down. Each year tons of satellite booster debris rain down on earth totally uncontrolled, some low earth orbiting satellites and meteorites also. How many people have been injured by such? Oddly if we just put holes in the balloon (F15 pilots would be most delighted to do this) it would deflate and act as a giant drogue chute to the spy package that is tethered below the balloon. The impact speed would be relatively low and we could glean much information from the spy package relatively undamaged.
Joe Biden did not order it taken down? The reason is simple. The Chinese and the Russians and some Ukranians have vast amount of dirt on Joe and his son Hunter.
Our president is a traitor.

You either shoot it down as an enemy, or show how compromised you are by not shooting it down.

That’s not the point. A foreign country has flown an object invading US airspace. Any WWII general would have ordered it shot down the moment it crossed into US airspace. Today, we have 4,000,000 illegals invading our southern border so we have that precedent.
If it’s loaded with something bad, that could be traceable in the debris. Then we would have leverage on them. But China Joe won’t do a thing that’s actually pro-U.S.

The service ceiling of a C-17 is 45,000 feet. (I assume that they are physically capable of higher but it would ‘void the warranty’). The balloon has been at over 60,000 feet for most of its journey.
