The General wasn't advocating war, nor was he predicting war.
Gen. Michael A. Minihan, USAF sent a memo to his troops, wanting them to speed up their preparations for potential combat with China. Although U.S. intelligence considers the possibility of war with China to be a decade away, Minihan raised warning signs that China's timeline for taking over Taiwan may be shorter.
That's what people who are expected to fight the next war are expected to do: to consider the factors that might lead a warlike country to take more aggressive military action and then to tell American forces to be prepared.
What did Gen. Minihan see as concerning?
He wrote that Chinese Communist Party chief Xi Jinping secured his third term (and set his war council) in October 2022. And that Taiwan and the United States both have presidential elections in 2024. The first could be considered a provocation by Beijing, as everything democratic is considered a provocation by the communist government. The second could be considered by Beijing to be a distraction for U.S. policymakers.
That makes 2025 a bet worth looking at.
Not a sure bet, and Minihan says, "I hope I'm wrong." But certainly, his is a view worth considering, as his service includes duty in the Pacific that began in 2013 and ended as deputy commander of Indo-Pacific Command, with responsibility for China and Taiwan, until 2021.
There are other factors that could increase his concerns. The American Intelligence Community has said that China wants to be stronger before taking on Taiwan, hence the longer timeline. However, Xi is watching the U.S. in Ukraine, where Western military stores are being depleting and there are no clear plans for replenishment either in the U.S. or in NATO.

China may need an external enemy to pull its people together. War may be the necessary distraction to prevent an internal revolution.
I think all one needs to do is look at where China gets their oil.
80% is imported, with most of that coming via ships from the Middle East. Some of that comes from Russia….on two or three pipelines. There are more being constructed…but that is going to take 5-10 years.
Japan and the US could shut off their oil supply in hours.
China would need to increase their access to energy and store a lot of oil before they start anything.
Libertylover worries that the timeline might not be measured in years, but in weeks. Biden gave away a lot of equipment to the Taliban in Afghanistan and now is giving away a lot of equipment and munitions to Ukraine. China may think our stockpiles are low enough to risk attacking Taiwan sooner rather than later.
In the speech Haotian set out the CCP’s strategy for the development of China. The speech argues for the necessity of China using biological warfare to depopulate the United States and prepare for a future massive Chinese colonization.
In this speech, Mr. Chi Haotian spoke openly about China’s need for “more living space” and stated bluntly that the United States, Canada and Australia are the only places LARGE enough to accommodate future Chinese needs.
He notes the need for a quick, effective biological attack upon the U.S. to depopulate it as a prelude to conquest, and plainly states that China is working genetic bio-weapons to kill everyone except “yellow people.”
His chilling remarks boast of a recent survey of the Chinese public wherein upwards of 80% were willing to “shoot and kill women, children and prisoners of war” as part of such an effort.
More frightening was his admission of an ongoing deliberate deception of the U.S.A. with China portraying itself as a peaceful business partner, while actually planning to kill “one or two hundred million Americas.”
He also noted that thanks to trade, income from Chinese exports is providing the financing needed to vastly expand Chinese military might in PREPARATION for an attack upon the U.S.A. which he seems to indicate will occur within “five or ten years.”
The speech argues for the necessity of China using biological warfare to DEPOPULATE the United States and prepare it for a future MASSIVE Chinese colonization (of the USA!).
More Small Excerpts From The Below Speech:
“Would the United States allow us to go out to gain new living space? First, if the United States is firm in blocking us, it is hard for us to do anything significant to Taiwan and some other countries! Second, even if we could snatch some land from Taiwan, Vietnam, India, or even Japan, how much more living space can we get? Very trivial! Only countries like the United States, Canada and Australia have the vast land to serve our need for mass colonization.
Therefore, solving the “issue of America” is the key to solving all other issues. First, this makes it possible for us to have many people migrate there and even establish another China under the same leadership of the CCP. America was originally discovered by the ancestors of the yellow race, but Columbus gave credit to the white race. We the descendents of the Chinese nation are entitled to the possession of the land! It is said that the residents of the yellow race have a very low social status in United States. We need to liberate them. Second, after solving the “issue of America,” the western countries in Europe would bow to us, not to mention to Taiwan, Japan and other small countries. Therefore, solving the “issue of America” is the mission assigned to CCP members by history.
Chi Haotian, Minster of Defense and vice-chairman of China’s Central Military Commission
The following is a transcript of a speech believed to have been given by Mr. Chi Haotian, Minster of Defense and vice-chairman of China’s Central Military Commission. Independently verifying the authorship of the speech is NOT possible. It is worth reading because it is believed to set out the CCP’s strategy for the development of China. The speech argues for the necessity of China using biological warfare to depopulate the United States and prepare it for a future massive Chinese colonization.
Here’s another view on what the general actually wrote, in his own words.

Because in light of Covid, that’s a pretty bold statement we all should be talking about!
The last US military weapon issued using a “clip” was the Garand (en bloc clip) as far as I know.
Turn in your man card general… you are a disgrace.
This General Gets it, General Michael Minihan, USAF, leader of the Air Mobility Command....
In the last conflict between major powers, in WWII, it was the disruption of supply lines that crippled the Germans and Japan, at home, and, in their forward deployments.
Keeping the supply lines open for the US Military is vital with any extended conflict with a major power, over multiple fronts.
