Dmytro Pavlychko, famous Ukrainian poet, co-author of country’s sovereignty declaration, dies at 93

Dmytro Pavlychko, Ukrainian poet, politician, translator, and literary critic, died on Jan. 29. He was 93.
Pavlychko began his literary career in the mid-50s. Pavlychko is famously known for writing the poem “Two colors (Dva kolory).” Ukrainian-American singer Kvitka Cisyk created a song based on the poet’s verse.
Pavlychko entered politics in the late 80s, being involved in the creation of Ukraine’s first major independent party – Rukh (People’s Movement of Ukraine). In 1990, he co-authored the “Declaration of State Sovereignty of Ukraine,” a law that stipulated that Ukrainian law overrule those of the Soviet parliament.
He was also a member of the Verkhovna Rada for two terms in the 1990s. He served as Ukraine’s Ambassador to Slovakia and later to Poland.
In 2004, Pavlychko was awarded the highest national title – Hero of Ukraine.
President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote that people would remember Pavlychko as one of the authors of the Declaration of State Sovereignty of Ukraine and as one of the founders of the People’s Movement of Ukraine.
“And, of course, as an outstanding poet,” Zelensky added.
The Wanger Group?
I’m guessing that was just a typo. At least I hope it was.

Those officials who do not meet the requirements of the state and Ukrainian society do not stay in their positions for a long time. They will be released.
As the Censor informs. No, this was stated by President Volodymyr Zelensky in his address.
According to him, a certain personnel lull is currently being monitored. However, new decisions will be made soon and officials should be dismissed.
“And one more thing. Now there is a certain personnel lull, but this does not mean that all the necessary steps have already been taken. There will be solutions. Those in the system who do not meet the fundamental requirements of the state and society should not sit too long in their chairs,” Zelensky said.

2. Putin No Longer Leading Ukraine Effort, Girkin Says: ‘A Complete Failure’

he Russian military blogger Igor Girkin has issued his latest broadside against how Russian President Vladimir Putin is conducting his invasion of Ukraine.
Also known as Igor Strelkov, Girkin is a former Russian intelligence officer who played a major role in Russia’s annexation of Crimea in 2014 and the conflict in Ukraine’s eastern Donbas region.
He has given perceptive but unflattering assessments of Russia’s military failures in Ukraine and his views on the military shortcomings of Putin and his commanders.
In a video posted on his Telegram social media channel on Monday, Girkin told an audience in St. Petersburg how he had predicted in May 2022 that Russia had already “failed” in what it calls a “special military operation” because there was no mobilization under way.
Over the course of the war, he said that Russian manufacturing “has fallen apart,” citing the lack of access to foreign supplies. He then took aim at the Russian “generals and bureaucrats” running Moscow’s war effort. With these people in charge, in his view, “it’s impossible to conduct a real mobilization, real preparation or have a real war.”
Although Putin announced a draft in September, a “brake” has been put on the call up, reiterating a view by many Russian military bloggers who say the country should be put on a full war footing. Girkin believes that Russian armed forces cannot manage with the personnel they have.
“That’s why our president has completely withdrawn himself from leading the special military operation and delegated it to the minister of defense (Sergei Shoigu) who has prepared his army badly,” said Girkin, “if you could call it preparation.”
He described the Russian military effort as “a complete failure,” in referring to how Putin had appointed Chief of the Russian General Staff Valery Gerasimov, to take charge of the Kremlin’s campaign in Ukraine.
“Everything is going on the same path as it was in the summer,” said Girkin, a time when Russian forces suffered setbacks in the teeth of a successful Ukrainian offensive, “only instead of Peski, we have Bakhmut.”
In August, Russia’s military said that the town of Peski in the Donetsk Oblast was under Moscow’s control. The battle for the city of Bakhmut has been ongoing for months.
A clip of Girkin’s comments was tweeted by Ukrainian internal affairs adviser Anton Gerashchenko, who wrote, “terrorist Girkin-Strelkov criticizes Russian leadership and Russian army for failing to prepare for war and predicts Russia is destined to lose the war.”

As one of the major commanders of the war in the Donbas region of Ukraine that started in 2014, Kyiv has accused Girkin of kidnapping and murder. In November 2022, Girkin was convicted in absentia—along with another Russian and a Ukrainian—of murdering all 298 people onboard Malaysia Airlines flight MH17, which was shot down over separatist-held territory in eastern Ukraine in 2014.
Despite strict laws brought into effect in Russia over the last year effectively prohibiting criticism of the Kremlin’s military campaign, Girkin has able to get away with taking swipes at Putin and the Russian defense ministry.
This is because he “is not really important in his own right” although he does reflect the views of a sizeable contingent within the military and security apparatus, Russia expert and director of the consultancy Mayak Intelligence, Mark Galeotti said in his podcast In Moscow’s Shadows on Sunday.
“The Kremlin has decided it is probably best to use him as a safety valve, rather than turn him into a martyr and have no real idea of quite what these increasingly… patriotic but anti-Putin forces are really thinking,” Galeotti said.
Newsweek has contacted the Russian defense ministry for comment.
This fellow is openly pro Ukraine but he’s very informative. Often criticizes Ukraine generals. Nice use of maps Those who assume it’s propaganda are mistaken. You learn a lot here about the actual battlefield geography.

“Russian troops are sending Ukrainian civilians into MINEFIELDS to find a safe path through”
David Averre
MailOnline US
Wednesday, Feb 1st 2023
- The National Resistance Centre claims it received the reports from Zaporizhzhia
- Russian troops were surveilling terrified civilians to find a way past the mines
- Ukraine’s PM believes up to 40 percent of the land is littered with explosives
Russian commanders are forcing Ukrainian civilians to wade through minefields to determine safe routes for their troops, a new report has claimed.
Ukraine’s National Resistance Centre - an online resource curated by the nation’s armed forces to inform civilian resistance groups - declared on Monday it had received reports that citizens in parts of the Russian-controlled Zaporizhzhia region were instructed to walk through mine-littered fields.
It claimed Russian troops would observe the terrified civilians and trace their steps to find a path through the lethal maze, though did not cite the source of the information which is yet to be verified.
Huge swathes of Ukrainian land have been littered with mines since Russian forces invaded on February 24, 2022 - up to an eye-watering 40 percent, according to Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.
he 1997 Mine Ban Treaty bans antipersonnel mines and mandates that nations must move to destroy mine stocks, participate in the clearance of mined areas in conflict zones and distribute assistance to victims.
Ukraine signed the Mine Ban Treaty on February 24, 1999, and ratified it on December 27, 2005. Russia has not joined the treaty, but it is still in violation of international law when it comes to its use of antipersonnel mines due to their indiscriminate nature in targeting combatants and civilians alike.
Earlier in the war Britain’s Ministry of Defence warned that Russian forces were scattering anti-personnel mines throughout occupied territory, a move which was widely condemned by the international community.
But Human Rights Watch also notified Ukraine of evidence it received suggesting its armed forces distributed the explosive devices in civilian regions in and around occupied Izyum.
The city has since been liberated, but many of the dangerous explosive devices, powerful enough to sever limbs and even kill, still remain.
‘Ukrainian forces appear to have extensively scattered landmines around the Izyum area, causing civilian casualties and posing an ongoing risk,’ said Steve Goose, Arms Division director at Human Rights Watch, in a statement last month.
‘Russian forces have repeatedly used antipersonnel mines and committed atrocities across the country, but this doesn’t justify Ukrainian use of these prohibited weapons.’
A response from Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry said the details of the HRW’s report had been received and were being investigated, but called on the international community to ‘exert pressure on the Russian Federation with the aim of immediately ending the criminal war against Ukraine and its use of the entire spectrum of inhumane weapons.’

In Mariupol, Russians shot the daughter of pastor Gennady Mokhnenko from a tank
On March 13, in Mariupol, as a result of shelling by the occupier, the daughter of the pastor of the Church of Good Changes and the founder of the largest in Europe Children’s Center “ Republic Pilgrims”Gennady Mokhnenko, was killed. He spoke about this on his Facebook page.
Pastor Gennady MokhnenkoFacebook post:
“Putin’s scum killed my daughter in Mariupol. Rescuing us from the “evil Bandera” and “returning to the bosom of the Slavic peoples and the Russian world,” they fired from a tank into the apartment recently received by Vika, a former orphan,” the pastor said. – As Putin says – “as part of the operation of” demilitarization “and” denazification “… To the apartment of an orphan, my 27th adopted daughter, from a tank… As part of” demilitarization “… Do you hear it all, Russians?
All of you who are “out of politics”, who believed for eight years in “They are not there?” You hear???
Nonhumans, do you hear??? To an orphan’s apartment from a tank… “demilitarization”…
However, they will tell you on TV that this, like the aerial bombs that are raining down on Mariupol right now, is just a Ukrainian fake. This, of course, is all “the Azov regiment is doing in my city.” And “my daughter” is not an orphan, but a dummy fashion model… “These are all insidious provocations of the West, NATO and the CIA… And your tanks naturally “save” us and our children.”
Inhumans. Heaven will present you with a bill… For lies, for silence, for cowardice and stupid eight years of agreeing to be deceived by propaganda. For non-resistance to usurpers and Chekist maniacs who seized your country…
However, you are already paying in thousands of your sons-occupiers, whose bodies are rotting in the fields of Ukraine… And I asked you, begged you, exhorted you… What are you doing?
Now I am not very able to reflect… Like many fathers, mothers at such a moment… Forgive me, Daughter, that I could not protect you. I really tried.”
A lot of propaganda on both sides and yes that includes Ukraine. Right now, Ukraine is begging the West for more weapons before upcoming Russian offensive.
Colonel Macgregor, with the exception of his statement on Solzhenitsyn, basically confirms what I was preaching for many years. No, not that Washington is incompetent--this has been a fait accompli for decades now--but that the US is incapable to take on Russia militarily.
Video at link
But even the title by Judge Napolitano is somewhat misleading: U.S. Not Prepared to take on Russia. The US is not just "not prepared", it cannot physically fight Russia without sustaining catastrophic defeat even if it spends next 30 years preparing for that fight. For starters, the US de-industrialization and societal ills permanently removed it from the largely self-proclaimed status of hegemon. The US will remain an important and influential country if it manages to keep itself intact (if), but, as I already stated, culturally the United States is not a continental military power. I deliberately used the all encompassing, history too, term "culturally", because military affairs of the nation are rooted in culture.
A short, in historic terms, departure of Russia from her position as a conventional military superpower in 1990s and 2000s was not due to America's military power which defeated Russians at the battlefield, it was largely due to self-inflicted wound and corruption of CPSU ruling elite, who fast refashioned itself into "liberal" democrats and formed anti-national oligarchy. This time has long since passed. Now, that the military-industrial might of Russia is being increasingly revealed, I have to go along with Colonel's assessment that Washington is simply preparing an excuse that "we did all we could". There is nothing the United States can send to 404, short of transferring US nuclear deterrent to Kiev regime, that can make any difference in the outcome of SMO. So, listen to Colonel and Judge and enjoy, if you will.
The entire video is proganda, lies and a one sided account. It contends that once all Russian prisons are empty....
