MONTGOMERY, Ala. – A recent poll of Alabama Republican Primary voters shows Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis leading former President Donald Trump by almost 20 points in a hypothetical matchup for the GOP presidential nomination in 2024.

A full 50% of those surveyed said they would either definitely or probably vote for DeSantis, while just 31% said they would definitely or probably vote for Trump. Among those who remain undecided, 3% lean toward DeSantis, 4% lean toward Trump and 9% are firmly unsure.

Brace yourself. Trump’s approach has always been to personally attack rivals, and “Only Trumpers” seem to feel this is a good approach.

I actually liked Trump and voted for him twice, but even the slightest question about him brought out people screeching that you were a “Never Trumper.”

Personally, for this run, I think Trump has got a lot of explaining to do. Why has he not apologized for the shutdown and vaccination campaigns (not his ideas, but enforced by him) and why has he never come out publicly to support the J6 protesters - who turned out specifically to support him in the stolen election?

And I do think it was stolen and that he was the genuine winner, but that doesn’t mean he automatically gets a re-do, as I have seen some posters say here.

Assuming arguendo that Trump, despite his demonstrated innocence of all the illegal and preposterous allegations laid against him, runs some risk in 2024 of losing simply because at least some decisive portion of the electorate votes while largely distracted or votes while misinformed by media, should we either support Trump or look to DeSantis as the safer option?

I have a very emotional attachment to the ethical mandate that the treachery of the Democrat party and its co-conspirators in the government should not be permitted to prevail and I am willing to run some real risks of actually losing the election to uphold the principle of equal justice. So I and willing to run some risks of winning or losing just so that the Democrats are punished at least at the polls for their crimes. To do otherwise is to reward bad behavior.

That is a different proposition than arguing that Trump personally is owed a second chance. No one with any civilized sense of empathy can deny that Trump deserves a second chance to restore his legacy and repair the damage so treacherously inflicted upon him but those kinds of personal considerations are as nothing compared to the survival of liberty.

If nominating Trump means Republicans surely lose, then personal considerations must simply be set aside. On the other hand, what rational and reasonable risks are we willing to run to vindicate justice? What precedent do we set if we fail to force the issue?

These questions are mooted without any hidden agenda.

Truth is I supported what Trump did and what he wanted to do by to be honest he seems to be doing self sabotage at this moment attacking the DeSantis for what? Because he doesn’t feel like he can measure up cause he’s got a lot of baggage.

Now,now...one must not question the King...that’s disloyal and you will be smitted...:) I have also wondered what he’s done with all that stop the steal money he got. Seems he’s pretty quite about that. But I’m sure the error of my thinking/questioning will be set straight by the usual suspects...:)

Believing Alabama has turned against Trump is like believing we quit loving college football and embrace soccer. LOL

Next there will be a poll claiming us Alabamians prefer veggie burgers over bacon. LOL

“Maybe if you’re lucky we can divide ourselves enough so that President Newsom will win in a cake walk.”

Or worse - Biden. Now that would be a humiliation. A splintered Republican Party plays into the dems’ hands.

I don’t have governor. The person I voted for had their election stolen, ripped off, just like Trump.

Pay attention.

desantis was just sworn in for his second term 3 weeks ago...

desantis released a statement 2 weeks ago instructing people not to donate any money to any organization that claims he’s running for president in 2024...

desantis can’t legally run for president until he resigns as governor...

Then why in Tarnation wouldn't he go to the podium and say he's not running and that he supports Trump? It would take one minute.

I’m an AL voter now, having moved from GA. Leaning DeSantis.

Trump simply must come off the insane assertion that his fast vaccine rollout saved millions of lives.
