Applicants to the police who can barely write in English are being accepted by the Met in an attempt to improve diversity, one of His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary has warned.
HMI Matt Parr said that while it was entirely “noble and right” that Scotland Yard was aiming to be more representative of the community it policed, it should not be at the expense of standards.
In 2021, Dame Cressida Dick, the then Met Commissioner, declared it was the force’s aspiration to recruit 40 per cent of its officers from the black and ethnic minority communities by 2023.
But despite the Government’s programme to boost the number of officers across the country, which has seen a significant recruitment campaign across policing, the number of BAME officers in London remains at less than 17 per cent.
Mr Parr said setting ambitious targets both around the number of police recruits and diversity was understandable, but that it increased the risk of lowering standards and recruiting people who were not suited to the job.
He said there was even anecdotal evidence that some applicants were being accepted even though they were “functionally illiterate in English” and had difficulty writing up crime reports.
Mr Parr told The Telegraph: “We completely support the idea that London - which will likely be a minority white city in the next decade or so - should not be policed by an overwhelmingly white police force.

There were also large numbers of Australians, Canadians, New Zealanders and South Africans who fought for the UK
Germany represented a direct threat to British security and the security of its empire. Accepting German domination of Europe had grave implications for British status and survival. Britain went to war in 1939 to defend the balance of power in Europe and safeguard Britain's position in the world.
So yeah, they fought for THIS -- London is still a, if not THE world economic capital.

93.1% of police officers were from the White ethnic group. 2.9% of police officers were Asian, 2.1% had Mixed ethnicity, 1.2% were Black and 0.7% were from the Other ethnic group.
Among the “Asian” community which means the South Asian (Indian, Pakistani, Sri Lankan and Bangladeshi) communities - they have not complained about any Police targeting of “asians”
I suspect London will resemble Chicago in a few years and their constabulary will resemble Memphis.

When I read the headline, I thought the Met was the Metropolitan Opera. This is news? Many of the singers at the Met are functionally illiterate in English.

Diversity is racism and the idiocy that thinks that non-white, non-male, young, is as good as anyone else just because they are that demographic.
Large companies have been run into the ground because of diversity. Boeing, for instance, is on its last leg and will probably file bankruptcy soon, but, they do have diversity. They have a diversity officer, one of those big fat black female ignorant idiots that claims that any team that does not have a black person on it hasn’t “thought about the ethics”. Their CEO of global services gave a welcome speech where the black man droned on for 20 minutes about how he was African (multigeneration American from Boston) and was diversity. The Boeing HR bimbo claims all posted positions must have 20% black candidates, and, of course, all black candidates move to the top of the list.
Diversity in universities means blacks do not show up for class but get a D- so they pass the class. Todays grade inflation means a C is really an F. Universities have become diploma mills, so no one flunks out.
Diversity means trucking companies can now hire blacks. What stopped them before was criminal records so many blacks have. So, Obama made sure insurance companies could no longer prevent criminal blacks from driving. Now the highways are littered with wrecks from black drivers. That’s diversity. When you see two trucks pacing each other on the freeway well below the speed limit, that’s two racist black drivers doing it on purpose. I know that well.
