DeSantis plans to ban ‘indoctrination’ at Florida colleges and universities

Gov. Ron DeSantis and State University System of Florida Chancellor Ray Rodrigues spoke at the State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota in Bradenton. The event was centered on “bringing accountability to the higher education system” in Florida.

....DeSantis said the “dominant approach” [to education] was common around the U.S., and that people see it “manifested” around the country as “DEI bureaucracies,” saying that they were “hostile to academic freedom and constitute a drain on resources” by committing to things like Critical Race Theory and mandatory diversity, equity, and inclusion programs.

Ron DeSantis has again triggered the media. This event just happened this morning (Tuesday, January 31) and local Miami media are already attacking him.

This media report says the governor proposes the following:

Requiring any general education course to provide a strong education foundation and “not promote ideological indoctrination,”

Require colleges and universities to “prioritize graduating students with degrees that lead to high-wage jobs,” and not those which are “designed to further a political agenda

Prohibiting “political filters like DEI statements” when making hiring decisions

Prohibiting public institutions from “supporting campus activities or programs that promote divisive concepts like DEI and CRT.”

The last line in the article really hits home... The state chancellor of Education spoke to the people assembled:

“Rodrigues continued, reminding those gathered that the U.S. Supreme Court had ruled in the 1950s that forced political speech by state institutions was wrong.”

Once again the other 30 GOP Governors are silent on Marxist indoctrination in our schools.

I guess Florida must be the only State where Marxist Indoctrination exists in our schools.

Hence, the reason the other 30 GOP Governors are silent.

I think a distinction needs to be made (at least at the university level) between mandates on DEI when it comes to hiring, promotion, curriculum, budgets, expenditures, grading, and other mandatory practices and whether a professor can use DEI principles as a basis for his lectures and teaching materials. To me the latter would be a free speech issue. Provided it does not result in a student’s free speech rights being silenced.

Academia is the mother of all swamps. Political and cultural reform is impossible as long as academia is controlled by the “woke”.

He missed freedom of speech, eliminating social censorship in search of academic truth.

The leftmedia is screaming bloody murder over the current push here in Florida to get rid of marxist indoctrination in our schools, a hegemony they have long been accustomed to. Spoiled, self-destructive brats, one and all. Recent actions to rejuvenate New College in Sarasota has them reeling, and this now casts a much wider net.

Another headline from The Atlantic screams, "Florida Has a Right to Destroy its Universities", to which we can only reply -- "No, pinko, you did that. We're putting it back together".

At best, DeSantis is one of them. President Trump and Republican governors have been all over this issue for a very long time --- many governors acting before Ron reached for the baton. See article below.

**Once again the other 30 GOP Governors are silent on Marxist indoctrination in our schools.**

This statement is absurd. See article below detailing what Republican governors and President Trump have been doing long before Ronnie decided to reach for the baton.

IF more republican states had the guts- they woudl join him and create a massive movement across this nation that could be unstoppable- but nope- most ‘conservative states’ will stand idly by, not wanting to ‘stir the waters’
