Israel refills the Sea of Galilee, supplying Jordan on the way

STORY: Israel is saving its main freshwater reservoir from the effects of climate change.

The Sea of Galilee was being lost to droughts.

So Israel built a chain of desalination plants along its Meditteranean coast.

They turn seawater into freshwater, to refill the lake when water levels get low.

“With this environment of climate changes, you don’t know what to expect next year and the year afterward. We are standing now in the late January and with very little rainfalls during this winter in Israel, arid winter basically with no rainfall. And we are no longer depending on rain basically for water supply because we know to manage the system and take the extra water, the extra water we produce artificially with desalination plants, and bring it to fill the natural lake if needed.”

The new system will also allow Israel to double the amount of water it sells to Jordan. Water was a major component in the 1994 peace treaty between the two nations.

I love the way the Israelis deal with the desert. In 5000 years the Arabs have accomplished nothing. Israel lets life bloom where there was none before. Israel is a "can do" country.

There is a species of fish similar to sardines that is fished and canned for export from the sea. Kinneret Sardine.

Bingo. Arabs hate as the false “prophet” Mahomet taught them. Jews love life and have the old testament as their guide.

I wonder what they do with that much salt. Can’t just dump it back in the local ocean. It’d ruin the eco system.

Climate change is when people move to places in the desert and pump all of the water out of every lake or river within an ever expanding distance. Then they drink that water and take showers with it and water lawns and flower gardens. Then the water supplies dry up. Actually they get used up. Lake Mead is a great example as Las Vegas gets bigger and more thirsty with each passing year. There is a really good demand for ice cubes in Vegas. More people need more water and when the natural drought cycle corresponds to the population growth cycle, climate change occurs very quickly.

I have read that the Israelis have found ways to commercially process the brine produced via desal.

If they spread it over a large enough area why would it be a problem? It would be the same as evaporation.

This totally makes sense. The Sea of Galilee and the Dead Sea are both below sea level. Run fresh stuff into Galilee and it will water the whole system.

It’s been raining off and on all night here in the western Galilee.

That’s nothing. Jesus took two or three of those fish and made them into five thousands fishes!

I sure hope their desalinization efforts don’t make the Mediterranean too salty. That’s the excuse California is using to not build such plants; they’re afraid they will cause the Pacific Ocean to become too salty.

Isaiah 41:18-20
New King James Version

18 I will open rivers in desolate heights,
And fountains in the midst of the valleys;
I will make the wilderness a pool of water,
And the dry land springs of water.

19 I will plant in the wilderness the cedar and the acacia tree,
The myrtle and the oil tree;
I will set in the desert the cypress tree and the pine
And the box tree together,

20 That they may see and know,
And consider and understand together,
That the hand of the Lord has done this,
And the Holy One of Israel has created it.

Yep.
The only thing the climate ever does is change.
A perpetual, non linear, stochastic mechanism.
