You posted that he exercises control over Croatia’s military.

“You posted that he exercises control over Croatia’s military.”
He does; but it is not arbitrary or unilateral. That’s how the Croatian constitution has established the role of president. If you want to put it differently, no ONE person exercises sole control over Croatia’s military. It’s a collaboration rather than a committee; the Croatian constitution has designated the president as the “commander-in-chief.”
Read into that what you will.
Britain has a somewhat similar setup:
From Wikipedia:
The head of the Armed Forces is the British monarch, currently Charles III, to whom members of the forces swear allegiance.[1] Long-standing constitutional convention, however, has vested de facto executive authority, by the exercise of royal prerogative, in the prime minister and the secretary of state for defence. The prime minister (acting with the Cabinet) makes the key decisions on the use of the armed forces.[10][11] The UK Parliament approves the continued existence of the British Army by passing an Armed Forces Act at least once every five years, as required by the Bill of Rights 1689. The Royal Navy, Royal Air Force, and Royal Marines among with all other forces do not require this act. The armed forces are managed by the Defence Council of the Ministry of Defence, headed by the secretary of state for defence.
I’d say something, but I also know how silly you are on Ukraine.
Oh! Just this afternoon at north end mcdees in grande Prairie, I met a couple fresh off the boat from Ukraine. Young man and his wife. I asked him why he wasn’t fighting for his country. He said he won’t fight for the corruption. He said zelensky was a f*g commie jew who hates Ukrainians and the country and is as corrupt as they get.
Funny. I keep hearing the same thing from all ukes I meet. For some reason many are coming here.
Thanks for your vote. I only want freedom for us all.
“I’d say something, but I also know how silly you are on Ukraine.”
I was talking about BRICS, in response to your usual rant about “globalists” and “globalism.” My comment wasn’t about Ukraine at all. Nice try, though.

Sounds like BS to me. You’re telling us that you walked up to a complete stranger in a restaurant and asked him why he’s not fighting in a war? And you say he called Zelensky a “f*g commie jew who hates Ukrainians?” And you expect us to believe that?
I have Ukrainian neighbors. Some of whom have family fighting in Ukraine. And they hate Russians. There is a deep hatred among Ukrainians for Russia, and it goes back a loooooong way.
In that regard AOC exercises control over the US military as well.
“In that regard AOC exercises control over the US military as well.”
Well, as a member of congress she can vote re: funding the military, and as a member of congress she can vote to declare war; but that’s about it.
Our constitution does not designate her specific congressional seat as having any titular role in the US military apparatus. Whereas the Croatian constitution DOES so designate such a role to the Croatian president; specifically, as commander-in-chief.
Thus, your comparison is far off-point. But I think you know that. I think you just want to be contrary; that, or you are as dense as your comment. But, I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt, and assume — at least for now — that you are just being contrary.
100% fact. I heard them talking and asked when they got here. I’m like that.
I really don’t give a damn if you believe it or not. You won’t be happy til we get WW4 anyways. Neocon.
Nice try, fascist. See how that works?
I admit to being contrarian, however I was just taking you to task for incongruent statements in your first post.
If his “control” is so significantly limited, its hard to call it control.
-fJRoberts-
If wanting individual rights and freedoms with secure borders and a very stringent immigration policy makes me a fascist, then so be it. I don’t care. I don’t want one life or one penny of my fellow Albertans or real Americans spent over in that crap hole. Not my circus, not my monkeys.
You should go though. You seem to care so much.
“If his ‘control’ is so significantly limited, its hard to call it control.”
Again, I was quoting the news article.
You sound like you think control is absolute. It is only absolute in instances where the head of state IS head of government, and is answerable to no one.
That is so rare as to be almost non-existent in the modern world. Hell, not even the grand poobah in Iran has absolute power.
I doubt there is ANY country on earth that has an absolute monarch or ruler who is answerable to no one.
So, every country on earth has limits on the control or power afforded its leader.
I don’t know how to make it any clearer for you. So, if you don’t understand it by now, the problem is not with me.
“If wanting individual rights and freedoms with secure borders and a very stringent immigration policy makes me a fascist, then so be it.”
No, because if it did I’d meet the definition of a fascist.
I called you a fascist simply to show you how meaningless it is for you to call everyone who has an opinion different from yours a neocon. Calling you a fascist is just as meaningless as you calling me a neocon. BTW: Do you even know what a neocon is? I doubt you do. You are just parroting a label you’ve heard from others.
actually it is probably the net effect of a handful of folks whose job is to scream and spam these threads to the point where an observe thinks half of conservatives want WWIII, as soon as possible, no matter the cost.
in this sense, the effort is quite successful. every week or two a new long-inactive account pops up full of vitrol for anything not pro-ukrainian.
