EVs might be OK for people who live in urban areas where trips are short and recharging stations plentiful. However as more EVs are on the road their limitations will become very apparent to their owners. EVs rely heavily on electronic technology which can be prone to difficult to resolve technical problems. Range does not live up to the hype in real world use. Costly battery replacement will make an EVs worth far less as a used vehicle. The issue of fires due to battery failure has not been fully resolved. For most of us an ICE vehicle will still be the best choice.
This isn’t an electric vehicle problem. This is a “You Bought a General Motors product, what did you expect?” problem, because their regular gas vehicles do this too.

sounds like bullshit to me ... the relatively small battery in hybrids is merely a buffer for regenerative breaking and providing power for basic functions when the engine automatically cycles off when the car is idling ... i can’t imagine a system like that working without a functioning buffer battery, and i can’t imagine a relatively small replacement buffer battery would be anywhere near as expensive as the massive battery that provides ALL the power for an actual EV ...
Hell, for $115,000 it damnd well oughta include a trained chimp that can use the Mechanics Tools under the hood.
I would say, probably a ton more hundreds of billions of dollars. I know that sucks, but that’s reality.
We had two GM cars, and mine used to just stall and the engine would go off in the middle of a road, and the steering would lock up and I would have to drift to the side. It was pretty horrifying. It did it twice, and I would avoid the interstate.

Plug in/regenerative systems make absolute sense to me.
You get the best of both systems, i just wish the hybrid side wouldn’t essentially brick the car when it has an issue
