Trump says possible DeSantis presidential run would be 'great act of disloyalty'

Former President Donald Trump said it would be "a great act of disloyalty" if Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis opposed him in the 2024 presidential primary.

"If he runs, that’s fine. I’m way up in the polls," Trump, the only declared 2024 presidential candidate, told The Associated Press in an interview after his campaign event Saturday in South Carolina.

One of the most recent polls, released Jan. 20, showed that Trump is leading DeSantis by 20 points in the 2024 GOP primary. Polls have been mixed over the past year, with DeSantis ahead in some and Trump winning in others.

"He’s going to have to do what he wants to do, but he may run," Trump said Saturday. "I do think it would be a great act of disloyalty because, you know, I got him in. He had no chance. His political life was over."

Trump has taken credit earlier several times before for getting DeSantis elected governor in 2018.

When asked earlier this month about a possible primary challenge from DeSantis, Trump said: "We'll handle that the way I handle things."

What I wish Trump would say: “DeSantis is a great governor and I’m proud of him, proud I got him there. When I win the White House againI want him as my attorney general. He’ll be my point man in cl among out FBI and DOJ , and defeating deep state”

Ditto.
A great leader would support the cause. A diminished leader would think its all about him.

Trump MAY have helped push DeSantis across the finish line the first time, but DeSantis governed well and won in a landslide the second time. Maybe Trump should be taking notes from Ron instead of whining…

Voting for the man who almost killed me with a fake vaccine that he’s still proud of would be an act of disloyalty both to myself and to my country. We need someone better!

Dear Donald:

Please THINK before you speak.

It's better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

Why single out Ron when there are also Pence, Pompey, Haley, Christie, Bolton and I don’t know who else? Loyalty is a scarce commodity these days.

Shut up Trump. The more you talk, the more I don’t want to vote for you a 3rd time.

yeah that BS is getting real old...

And people here wonder why folks are backing away from Trump...it has nothing to do with not being maga something or some other such ridiculous label. It is comments like he made and his silly name calling and his continued complaining about the last election.

Focus on today and the future...that is what will get you elected.

Trump helps himself not at all with the “disoyalty” canard - makes him appear to think the GOP is his, personally.

It will be a great mistake in DeSantis runs in 2024. He has 2028 sewn up if he waits until then to run.

Whatever.

Let them fight it out.

PS - Some say DeSantis’ father looks a lot like the Zodiac killer. Just saying.

Trump needs to get over that kind of self centered arrogance, at least when he’s in public.
Desantis is very likely grateful for the support Trump showed during his Gov campaign, but that doesn’t necessarily equally 100% fealty and compliance forevermore.

That has not been the pattern with any of the Supreme Court Justices he selected. Not at all.

If Pres. Trump thinks this makes him look good, he’s wrong. Why does he keep taking the bait from the MSM?

Sheesh.

I'll defend DeSantis on this one.

Loyalty should and must be to our fine Country and her traditions.

Fealty to a politician comes in at last place.

Trump might never learn that he's more characterized by impetuous posts and ill-considered remarks than all the good (and there is much) that he accomplished.

As the announced candidate, he chooses to make it way too easy for his opponents.

> “What I wish Trump would say: “DeSantis is a great governor and I’m proud of him, proud I got him there.”

President Trump has already said those things and DeSantis has not thanked him nor declared his support for Trump ‘24.

Trump is talking past DeSantis to the scumbags behind him.

DeSantis is backed by two scam artist Never-Trumper billionaires, Paul Singer and Ken Griffin, who siphoned off billions from 401ks via their hedge funds in Wall Street ‘s rigged casino.

DeSantis is a former Swamp Congressman who did squat while there, who begged for Trump’s support in 2018 to become Governor and received it abundantly, and now that he’s got what he wants, he snubs Trump whole enjoying how full of himself he is.

He has always sucked from the government teat, never produced anything on his own, never operated or built a business.

All he’s done is take money and read scripts with soundbites that push our conservative buttons.

While the vaccine money was flowing, he was singing its praises.

He should finish his term, step out and get a real job like maybe real estate, construction, commodities trading, .....

But he doesn’t have the skill set. He’s merely a puppet that squawks like a conservative reading from a script.

When DeSantis makes his move, we are going to kick his a$$ into the Swamp where he came from and where he belongs.

The only way out for him is to give a middle finger salute to Singer and Griffin, and declare his appreciation and support for President Trump in 24.

But he won’t do that.

There are more than a dozen political con artists who smiled and begged for Trump’s support when it was convenient for them, then dropped Trump as soon as they got what they wanted.

McConnell is one.
Kemp is one.
DeSantis is one.

Many others.

He can say whatever he wants

Maybe Trump doesn’t think DeSantis is a great governor. Maybe if he was talking about DeSantis as governor instead of as presidential candidate and rival

I know a whole lot less about DeSantis than I did about Trump when he started running in 2015

He had been a yuge public figure, a successful, honest businessman and someone who had proven his love for this country for the previous three decades in NY.
In any case here’s what people don’t get

Trump got to where he is with not only zero media assistance but with tge media - and Freepers- criticizing his every word statement and deed

He’s going to continue not caring about the media.

The media didn’t make him and they will not break him.

That’s all.
