How classified documents became a schoolgirl’s show-and-tell
LA Times ^ | 1/26/23

On a winter’s day in 1984, a briefcase stuffed with classified government documents showed up in a building in Pittsburgh, borne by someone who most certainly wasn’t supposed to have them. That someone was 13-year-old Kristin Preble. She took the papers to school as a show-and-tell project for her eighth-grade class. Her dad had found them in his Cleveland hotel room several years earlier and taken them home as a souvenir.

As a different sort of show-and-tell unfolds in Washington over the mishandling of state secrets by the Trump and Biden administrations, the schoolgirl episode from four decades ago stands as a reminder that other presidents, too, have let secure information spill.

The Grade 8 escapade and one known as Debategate both involved the mishandling of classified documents that Democratic President Carter used to prepare for a debate with Republican rival Ronald Reagan in Cleveland on Oct. 28, 1980. In the latter instance, the Reagan campaign obtained — some said stole — Carter’s briefing materials for the debate.

In today’s docudramas, special counsels have been assigned to investigate Donald Trump’s post-presidential cache of classified documents, which he has resisted turning over, and Joe Biden’s pre-presidential stashes, which he willingly gave up when they were discovered but did not disclose to the public for months.

With classified material also found at former Vice President Mike Pence’s home, there is now a palpable sense in the halls of power that as more officials or ex-officials scour their cabinets or closets, more such oops moments will emerge

MSM covering for their party, attempting to make normal Vice Presidents taking home classified documents and being irresponsible with them.

Did the Founding Fathers ever imagine that America’s elected officials would be subject to investigation, harassment and prosecution from permanent executive branch apparatchiks - over the vast classification over every activity that takes place in government?

secrecy and classification is the voodoo of the deep state

Campaign plans for a debate are not a matter of national security. They are trying to make an equivalency between all these things to give Biden an out for his illegal handling of classified material.

.
Months went by and they were telling us Trump is a Criminal - absolutely no one on TV, in either party, and not even Trump’s lawyers used the word “Overclassification.”

It was simply not part of the lexicon - Biden is caught - and Republicans, Judges, lawyers, and Cable Tv hosts have found a new term - overclassification.

Brett Baier and TV losers went from No One is above the Law - to Overclassication.

Lindsey Graham says he’s ready to fix the Problem, signaling Legislation is the answer!

We are Lied to daily.

Well, if a schoolgirl was involved that surely means Joe Biden wasn’t too far away.

“Article II, Section 2

“The President...may require the opinion, in writing, of the principal officer in each of the executive departments, upon any subject relating to the duties of their respective offices...”

The Founding Fathers knew that underlings would try to save their necks at the expense of their bosses.

“secrecy and classification is the voodoo of the deep state”

There can be a need for secrecy.

There can be a need for secrecy.

Its funny how this was never an issue used to attack other Presidents, or their advisors - who were engaged in truly serious wars and such.

“Donald Trump’s post-presidential cache of classified documents, which he has resisted turning over, and Joe Biden’s pre-presidential stashes, which he willingly gave up when they were discovered but did not disclose to the public for months.”

Trump took on major responsibilities, Biden at the time didn’t.

“pre-presidential stashes”

Biden was only a VP and Obama was healthy and well-protected.

Classified documents end up as show-and-tell how odd Biden does the same thing but for cash.
