Trump unveils new education policy loaded with culture war proposals

Former President Donald Trump is unveiling a 2024 education policy plan, one focusing heavily on the culture war components that have animated conservatives.

The plan, shared in advance with POLITICO, calls for cutting federal funding for any school or program that includes “critical race theory, gender ideology, or other inappropriate racial, sexual, or political content onto our children." It also calls for opening “civil rights investigations into any school district that has engaged in race-based discrimination,” particularly against Asian American students, and promises to “keep men out of women’s sports.”

The proposals are not focused solely on social policy and school curriculum. In a video unveiling the plan, which was shared by his campaign, Trump also calls for making significant cuts to administrative personnel and the end of teacher tenure and the election of school principals.

“As the saying goes, personnel is policy and at the end of the day if we have pink-haired communists teaching our kids we have a major problem,” Trump said. “We're at the end of the list on education and yet we spend the most, but we're going to be tops in education no matter where you go anywhere in the world."

Though large swaths of education policy are dictated by state and local governments, Trump’s proposals still represent a radical departure from long-standing approaches. Taken in full, they represent an attempt by the former president to put his own imprint on debates around the nation’s school systems that have popped up across state capitals.

Conservatives, for example, have pushed for restrictions on transgender athletes, even though transgender women have been allowed to compete in women’s categories in the Olympics since 2003 and the NCAA since 2010.

Just days ago, meanwhile,

Now running for office again, Trump is calling for a certification program for teachers who “embrace patriotic values” and “funding preferences and favorable treatment” for states and school districts that follow his calls for abolishing teacher tenure. He also calls for cutting administrative roles, and adopting a “parental bill of rights.” Trump said he would also remove “the radical zealots and Marxists” he claims have “infiltrated” the Department of Education.

Trump’s a good guy but there is no saving public schools. Trump and all the rest of REAL America needs to be talking about secession of some kind. We need to cut ties with what’s left of America’s dying carcass.

In other words, common sense.

Kabuki. He openly supports homosexual behaviors.
Only 2 things will fix education. Abolish the department of Ed and funds follow the child school choice.
Everything short of those two things is just political machinations with zeros effect.
He installed mail in voting and lots of big government. So he can just take those two things and go golfing.. indefinitely. #TrumpisAVaxPimp

He should have just stopped with this: “cutting federal funding for any school or program”.

No reason for federal funding at all.

This should be resolved locally.

Very hard. The government is too powerful and pervasive. The best thing is (a) If you can do it, and I know most can’t, find a small city all or overwhelmingly white that is MAGA and move there (b) Arm up while you can, Try and find people who reload for your ammo, Practice shooting all you can (c) fort up, if you have the money get steel burglar doors , otherwise try to improve physical security of your house,
(d) home school at some level, teach your children the Constitutional republican basis of our nation and basic info on history and conservative political theory (e) if you are religious try and find a conservative Bible believing church, not one that is ‘establishment conservative’ run by ‘goood’ people. Doing these things will enable you and yours to conduct an ‘inner emigration’.

Trump, even understanding he was distracted by fake investigations, dropped the ball on education reform in his 4 years. It’s one of the most important issues of our time and nothing was accomplished under Trump. Yes, it’s a state issue, but there can be much done federally as well.

Excellent.

We have been waiting for Trump to pivot to this issue. This is the Marxist enemy's primary front and its most vulnerable weakness.

Trump can ride this horse all the way to the WH.

So can DeSantis if he's our candidate.

The less Federal input...the better chance of parents going after these boards who think they are always right.

Typical Trump.

Stirring the swamp at best, not draining it.

He's still a BigGovt guy. Who believes we just need the right people in charge of the tyranny to make it work.

Get rid of DOE! It does not belong in the federal govt. It is not very old, Carter, and it was a mistake that should be eliminated.

States can handle education. Some are way ahead of Trump's bad ideas already.

It nice that he acknowledges the problems. He's just terrible at picking the correct fixes. He does not even seem to comprehend the real problem being increasingly centralized control. Because he likes BigGovt.

One guy, even as POTUS, will not drain the Swamp. It is silly to think it is possible. Would take decades and tens of thousands of firings, and new actual conservatives across the country. Same with termination of Cabinet offices, like Education.
