Survey: Donald Trump Maintains Double-Digit Lead in 2024 Primary
Breitbart ^ | 25 Jan 2023 | HANNAH BLEAU

Former President Donald Trump is continuing to maintain a sizable lead in a hypothetical 2024 Republican primary race, the latest survey from Morning Consult found.

The data showed Trump garnering support from nearly half of those surveyed — 49 percent. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) falls 19 points behind with 30 percent support.

No other potential challenger came close or saw double-digit support, as former Vice President Mike Pence fell to a distant third with seven percent support. Former U.S. ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley fell to fourth place with three percent support, and former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY), as well as Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), saw two percent support each.

Morning Consult noted that Trump’s 19-point lead in the hypothetical primary is up from an 11-point gap — the biggest low — measured earlier this month. At the time, Trump saw 45 percent support to DeSantis’s 34 percent.

Still, DeSantis remains the top backup choice for Trump voters, as 42 percent chose him. Similarly, Trump appears as the top second choice for DeSantis supporters as well with 39 percent choosing him.

The survey also matched up Trump and DeSantis against President Biden and found Trump leading the president by three percent, 44 percent to 41 percent. Ten percent said “someone else,” and six percent remain undecided.

Biden, however, leads DeSantis by two percent — 43 percent to 41 percent. In that instance, eight percent said “someone else,” and another eight percent remain undecided. In both matchups, the undecideds could swing the race in either direction.

Both Trump and DeSantis are also enjoying top favorable ratings among Republican voters as well — 78 percent and 72 percent, respectively.

That’s true but if there isn’t a run off then the winner will
be the nominee. Needs 50% + l to eliminate a run off.

Trump enjoying a nice bump thanks to Biden's classified documents scandal which makes if far less likely that Trump will find himself indicted.

Meanwhile, Trump was leading DeSantis by 40 points last August according to the same polling outfit.

What happened?

Lots of DeSantis shills on FR.

They want Newsom v. DeSantis in 2024 with Newsom winning by machine and mail-in voting.

In recent weeks, a number of credible polls have shown that DeSantis—consistently in Trump’s shadow—has suddenly begun to surge in favorability among Republican voters while Trump, long considered the thought leader of the Republican Party, has begun to put himself opposite key positions held by the base.

One poll released by Marquette University’s Law School showed DeSantis leading Trump by nearly 30 points—64 percent to 36 percent—among Republican voters in a hypothetical head-to-head matchup for the party’s nomination for president, while enthusiasm for a future Trump run has declined by 7 points since his party’s underwhelming performance in a 2022 midterm election he’d largely helped define

Looks like DeSantis has gained ground but has a long way to go.

Also, you made a good analysis of Oregon politics moving forward, when I asked you if we could swap governors the other day.
I didn’t have time to respond so I’m complementing you belatedly.

none of this crap matters if the republicans don’t get a clue about how to do elections.

********

We don’t know if DeSantis is even running, can win the Republican Primaries, or defeat Biden in the General Election.

Right now DeSantis is flying high with his great victory in the Florida Governor election. He’s also having fun beating the crap out of woke ideology in the State he’s running.

Beating up woke is the easy part, the hard part for him is when he goes national and the media and his political enemies start lying & “making up baggage” on little MAGA.

Switching out the Trump horse for the DeSantis horse is a risky proposition that I’m not willing to take.

“Why take a chance?”

The Trump horse got nipped at the wire last time. What
makes you think he can do better four years later? Age
makes a difference imo.

I don’t think Biden can survive another term. Secondly
VP Harris has got to play in the mix and future plans for
the Democrats. JMO

Trump has only one term to serve if he runs and is elected.
Some other younger candidate could serve two terms.

IMO somewhere in all the mix is the VP Harris’s future. I’m
not sure how they are playing that future out. It has some
options and I believe they are looking at her to be the first
female president. The dems got the first black president
and could get the first female president. JMO, we’ll see.

The rigging of elections has been going on since 1790. With the invention of the secret ballot it became even easier for the American Establishment to rig elections while pretending to ‘protect’ us from voter suppression & intimidation.

I take a different position than most people on Free Republic who think every state will be blue & we’ll never see a Republican President again. The USA establishment can rig things:

“Either Way” (Especially in a divided country with slim margins, voting machines, mail in ballots, absentee ballots, & secret ballots.)

2000 election rigged for Bush.

2004 rigged for Bush.

2008 rigged for Obama.(They didn’t need to on this one)

2012 rigged for Obama.

2016 rigged for Trump.

2020 rigged for Biden with the Big Steal.

2024 will be rigged for Trump, which will make the Trump Era 12 years instead of 8 & will maximize media profits.

American politics is a business and Trump sells.

How about Biden being re-elected and steps down after 2 yrs
and one day. VP Harris moves up and can be the first female
President and serve for 10 years. History in the making.
