West risks war with Russia over escalating military aid
Irish Times ^ | 1/25/23 | Geoffrey Roberts

From day one of the war in Ukraine, the most powerful argument against unrestrained western intervention in the conflict has been the danger of catastrophic escalation into an all-out war between Nato and Russia.

So far, western governments have shied away from a truly existential confrontation with Russia. But the threat remains that continuing western military aid to Ukraine will provoke Russian countermeasures that could turn Moscow’s proxy war with Nato into a direct military conflict.

Western hawks have long argued the danger of escalation is illusory. In an op-ed for the New York Times, former British diplomat Nigel Gould-Davies claimed “Putin has no red lines” and that, far from being deterred by fear of escalation, the West should call Putin’s bluff and threaten Russia with nuclear retaliation if he overreacts to western support for Ukraine.

Gould-Davies provides no hard evidence for his insights into Putin’s mind. His argument is pure speculation, and prompts the question: what if Putin won’t back away from a major war with the West? Should Nato be taking even a small risk of igniting a larger conflict that could kill millions?

Putin’s restraint in the face of massive western military aid to Ukraine has been remarkable but his forbearance may not be boundless. If the West goes too far, he may be tempted to risk a degree of escalation himself by, for example, interdicting western supplies before they arrive in Ukraine, or by neutralising the Nato surveillance systems that provide Kyiv with intelligence that enables deadly strikes on Russian targets.

I disagree with you, we knew if the Russians missed the 1984 window then they would probably be avoiding attacking for at least a decade and maybe more.

If there is to be war directly between the USA and Russia, let the children of the warmongers in Washington DC be the first into battle. Let the sons and daughters of these DC lunatics die to impose globalist tyranny.

Amen, and this would stop their war lust in it's tracks.

Russia has tried to have carriers, but they can’t seem to keep them afloat.

Their best chance might’ve been from the Walker Spy Ring info, which potentially gave them all the SLBM locations to take them out for a first strike. That was a lot more damaging than most people realize.

If you had an adult’s understanding of global dynamics, you
wouldn’t make such an ass out of yourself.

No one wants war, but there are worse things.

A war not fought, can lead to a much larger problem over
not just one but a number of regions.

I didn’t advocate for this war. I didn’t start this war.
I haven’t tried to justify this war, from the perpetrator’s
perspective.

Tell me just how much you like this war, since you sneer
at anyone who suggests Putin should withdraw to the
recognized borders Russia shares with the Ukraine.

How many hundreds of thousands of Russians have to die
before this war can be recognized as being a mistake.

In ten months, Putin has lost more troops than we did in
the entire ten year Vietnam War.

You might want to keep that in mind the next time someone
suggest Putin should pack it in, and have some semblance
of sympathy for the carnage he inflicted on his own
people and the people of the Ukraine.

The U.S. and the West told Russia the goal is destroy Russia and break it into pieces. They are fighting for the survival of their nation which has stood for more than 1,000 years.

Once in Moscow at the Kremlin I saw a 1000 yr old gate.
It was incredibly humbling.

And yes, you are exactly correct. Thank you.

“The rest of the world vs russia”. That’s the kind of misunderstanding that will get us nuked. Add up the population of russia plus iran, plus china, plus india. The delusion that we have everyone else on our side may get us all killed.

“Don’t tell me they’re starting another Operation Barbarossa. The first didn’t go too well for Deutschland.”

Actually, Barbarossa went TOO well, TOO fast for Germany. If Germany had just consolidated its gains instead of trying for an early knock-out punch things would have turned out differently.

However, Barbarossa’s follow-wp, Fall Blau, was what really screwed the pooch for Germany. There was no recovering from that cluster!@#$.

Putin is already changing the world and admired for it..

🎉Miami, New York, Rome and Madrid congratulated Putin on his birthday

The words of the Russian president have appeared on buildings in various parts of the Western world.

“This West has no moral right to even stutter about the freedom of democracy. Happy birthday, Mr. President - Miami

“The entire unipolar world order is false and hypocritical through and through. Happy birthday, Mr. President” - New York

“Our values are humanity, mercy and compassion” - Rome

“The collapse of Western hegemony that has begun is irreversible. It won’t be like before. Happy birthday, man changing the world!” – Madrid

The Miami building was Trump Towers.
