Assemblyman Josh Hoover, R-Folsom, has introduced legislation that would prohibit homeless encampments within 500 feet of schools, daycare centers, parks, and libraries.
Assembly Bill 257 is one of the first measures proposed by Hoover, who was elected last November in a tight race with then-incumbent Assemblyman Ken Cooley.
“This bill is all about keeping our public spaces safe for the most vulnerable people in our community, which is our kids,” said Hoover on Tuesday. “It’s critical that we make sure all our kids feel safe walking to school.”
Hoover said that near his home in Folsom, he’s found needles and other drug paraphernalia where his three kids play.
“The goal of this bill is to make sure our public spaces are safe and usable. It is simply one part of a larger issue,” he said.

One big upside of Wyoming is the -20F weather we typically have every winter does a fine job of banning homeless camps.
Frankly I’m astonished the bill doesn’t require schools to open their playgrounds to homeless encampments!
I wonder if his office is the corner table at McDonald’s? If not, he’s paid way too much to “help” the homeless

Gotta start off small.
The sponsor is a Republican. The opposition comes from “progressive” Democrats. They don’t want any restrictions on homeless camps.
Traditionally the hoboes and bums were kept away from the people, “down by the tracks”.
The left created a deliberate strategy to put them in front of us, in our doorways, on our city sidewalks.

Wow! 500 feet that’s slightly over a city block in Sacramento. That will make a real difference. I know I would be happy to have homeless encampments a block from the elementary schools in our town. /s

It probably would, at least in decent-sized cities. There are schools, daycares, parks, etc everywhere, so when you pass a bill like this (as they already have for sex offenders), it can effectively exclude 90% of the city.
Some civic minded person should distribute free doughnuts and Fentanyl to these people. All you can eat.
Now they just need spots a block and a half away that no kid has to walk past.

Bob has made a wonderful life for himself as Executive Director...plus he’s grown the homeless problem in Sacramento ...job security.
Didn’t mention if taxpayers will substitute vouchers good for fine hotel rooms with room service.
