A massive painting of Jesus on display in the US Merchant Marine Academy in New York has been covered by a curtain after objections that the religious image should not hang in a room used for mandatory activities.
The painting, featuring Jesus with his arms outstretched over a lifeboat packed with sailors lost at sea, turned into a point of tension for non-Christian students and staff.
Eighteen people, including five Jews, asked the Military Religious Freedom Foundation to appeal on their behalf to the Kings Point academy, which reports to the US Department of Transportation, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency reported.
Mikey Weinstein, the foundation’s founder, asked the academy’s superintendent Joanna Nunan in a Jan. 10 letter to move the painting to a more appropriate location, like a chapel.
Weinstein noted that the Elliot M. See room, which currently houses the painting, is utilized for a variety of occasions, including as a classroom, a venue for advisory board meetings and as a court for disciplinary hearings, among other things.
“The outrageousness of that Jesus painting’s display is only further exacerbated by the fact that this room is also used regularly for USMMA Honor Code violation boards where midshipmen are literally fighting for their careers,” Weinstein wrote, according to the report.

What is wrong with these people. Ridiculous to say it is offensive....but then they’re not in that boat.
I respect the Jews but they must respect that they live in a majority Christian nation. It is this sort of intolerance that creates a backlash of antisemitism.

In a good size storm at sea, almost all sailors will be asking Jesus to help them. Even atheists.

There are no anthesis’s in a foxhole so the old saying goes. I’d probably rescue a known Christian over a non-believer given the choice one life might be lost making the decision in light of the complaint. The tolerance in this one group is astounding.

Jesus was a Jew who believed in Jesus. And many modern rabbis say that a Jew who believes in Jesus ceases to be a Jew. So Jesus was not a Jew, according to those rabbis.
Yet many of those same rabbis make an exception for Jesus, telling Christians that "Jesus was a Jew" because it's a great talking point to win Christian goodwill.
However, the Talmud says that Jesus is a blasphemer who's boiling in a pot of feces in Hell, so He's still a Jew according to the Talmud, albeit a bad Jew.

No one's offended by public displays of menorahs or eruvs, or Muslim, Wiccan, or Buddhist symbols. It's all good.
It's only Jesus the World takes offense at.
At least we can all agree that there's something unique about Him.
