Defense chiefs fail to resolve dispute on tanks for Ukraine

RAMSTEIN AIR BASE, Germany (AP) — Ukraine will have to wait longer to find out if it will get advanced German-made battle tanks.

A dispute over sending the tanks from Western allies to help Ukraine against Russia’s invasion played out both in public and private on Friday, as more than 50 defense leaders meeting in Germany failed to hammer out an agreement — stalled by Berlin’s hesitation.

Failure to reach agreement on what has become an urgent request from Ukrainian leaders largely overshadowed commitments from a number of nations — including the U.S. — to send billions of dollars in equipment and weapons to the war effort.

Typically, German iron is high performance and high maintenance.
I can understand why they might not want their tanks operating without their technicians.

Panzers or Tigers? They can’t send them because they need diesel from Russia. Germany is the worst gang of perpetual losers. They’re the Washington Generals of world domination.

At least they are giving away someone else's military hardware as well as ours. Trump rebuilt the entire military in his 4 years and Biden, in less than two, has left half of it for the enemy to have in Afghanistan and is giving away the other half to Ukraine in a Proxy war with Russia!

Que Ozzy and RR. We're going off the rails on a crazy train!

GM several years ago designed a tank for export Called the Stingray. Restart the production line and sell the Jkes,.or.the Russians, as many as they want to buy.

Lots of countries operate Leopard IIs without German technicians. Leopard IIs are in service with @20 countries. The problem is contractual. The Germans sold them with the proviso that any resale would be subject to German state approval.

Oh, none of that matters, Ukraine has already won this war, according to the cheerleaders. /sarcasm

Pay no attention to the fact that Ukraine is dependent upon other nations to supply them with weapons and ammo. Pay no attention to the fact that nations can't agree to arm them as they should. Because none of that matters they have cheerleaders around the globe, so they must be the winners. How could a nation with that much verbal and visual displays of support ever possibly fail?

So, by golly by gum they will get er done, because Russia is weak, and their soldiers will turn tail to run & desert the military conflict, because even Russian citizens hate their country & her leader. In fact, any day now he will either die or be overthrown. I know this, because the cheerleaders told me so, oh by jingo.

Go Ukraine Go

They dont need “diesel from Russia”. Petroleum, and the diesel made from it, is a global commodity. The market and supply for such commodities is a global pool. There is nothing special about Russian petroleum vis a vis Germany.

“Germany vs. Russia, Round 3?” Probably more like, “EU vs. Russia.” Or, “NWO vs. Russia.”

I still think some of their reason for hesitating is they don't want their tanks tracks running thru Ukraine as they did in Hitler's war. Tanks and mechanised infantry of the 24th Panzer Division advancing through Ukraine, June 1942

An opinion from the German Left Party (Die Linke).

This is the remnant of the East German ruling communist party, which was a Soviet puppet. It is still pro-Russian. It still (quite amusingly) still hears its masters voice. Its main support is still that remnant of Ostalgia - nostalgia for the East, held by some recalcitrant few who grew up in East Germany, plus a new radical woke generation of mainly Muslim immigrants.

Poland seems very willing. This may have been a Polish proposal to begin with. And the timing is right, as promised US deliveries of M1’s to the Polish army seem to be ongoing. This is likely because large shipments of US vehicles arrived in Europe last month. And the Korean K2’s have started arriving as well. Poland now has backfill to start replacing its Leopards.

The hitch is the German contractual agreements. Its possible that at some point Poland will just break them.

In the context of a new policy of confrontation with the Eurasian bloc, Germany and Japan are to become front-line states with limited sovereignty for the US. And in this situation, the Hofreiters, Baerbocks and Strack-Zimmermanns are acting as if they want primarily to serve the interests of US corporations and the United States as a whole.

Interesting.

I laughed when I read this yesterday..

“Jan 14 (Reuters) - Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev accused Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida on Saturday of shameful subservience to the United States and suggested he should ritually disembowel himself.”
