Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the Russian army to increase the number of service members to 1.5 million from 2023 to 2026, according to a briefing of Russia's defense ministry.

Russian defense minister Sergei Shoigu last mentioned the goal of expanding the army from 1 million to 1.5 million, including 695,000 contracted soldiers, during a Dec. 21 meeting with Putin and his defense chiefs.

According to the Russian defense ministry's Telegram channel, there are plans to create additional divisions, corps and military districts, as well as strengthen existing ones.

But I’m not talking about Ukraine. NATO isn’t fighting in Ukraine. Certain member countries are giving them arms, ammunition and troop training, but NATO isn’t fighting anyone. No more than what the Warsaw Pact did for North Vietnam.

But you said:

“NATO better have it’s troops wash off their makeup and file their nails. Things are getting real”

You didn’t say “Ukraine.” Neither did I, but there it is, your quote, “NATO”.

How is Russia growing their manpower numbers a threat to NATO?

In their support of Ukraine, and their encroachment Eastward, especially post 1991, NATO is a threat to Russia. I fully believe that NATO already has troops on the ground, with more inevitably to come. I don’t support this proxy war, and I especially reject Biden’s warmongering. Others feel differently, as is evident by your weak bickering.

Lol, nobody is scared of 500,000 more conscripts getting tossed into the meat grinder.

The meat grinder is working overtime in Soledar and Bakhmut, but it’s Zelenskyites being fed into the gears, not Russian conscripts.

By the way, I don’t think increasing the size of the Russian active duty armed forces to 1.5 million is a very big deal, and nothing we (the United States) need to worry about. Now, if they are adding 1.5 million to what they already have, that might be concerning, but that’s not how I read Putin’s remarks. Am I wrong?

https://www.macrotrends.net/countries/RUS/russia/military-army-size

Russian military active duty over the last several years:

(Note: latest numbers are 4 years old)

Russia military size for 2019 was 1,454,000.00, a 0% increase from 2018.

Russia military size for 2018 was 1,454,000.00, a 0% increase from 2017.

Russia military size for 2017 was 1,454,000.00, a 0% increase from 2016.

Russia military size for 2016 was 1,454,000.00, a 2.42% decline from 2015.

Sure, sure. Russia just sends untrained conscripts to the front line and they magically dodge all the bullets and artillery shells.

You’re wrong in this respect; you seem to be itching to dive into this Ukraine argument fully on the side of Biden and his foreign policy. I say do it, and be Proud! Stand up for what you believe in, regardless of what gender they identify as or what uniform they wear!

I disagree that NATO is fighting in Ukraine. You can believe whatever you want, but without proof, that would be crazy.

I’ve said it once, I’ve said it again, I don’t give a fig about the Corrupt Republic of Ukraine. Trump was damn right to ask for an investigation in that perfect phone call. If I lived there, I would fight any invader, just like a man would and would fight my government’s rampant corruption.

However, I am not a Ukrainian.

I am an American; I love America. I hate those who are either foreign or domestic enemies. That includes Biden and Americans who live in Ireland who would betray her.

Watch who you’re talking to. I’m not in the same camp as those Zeepers you fight with every day ad nauseum. You’re getting unduly cocky with all kinds of people you think (wrongly) are enemies.

Funny…Putin, Stalin, and Hitler all said the same thing.

You should at least stop the charade and just post your trip.

Now come on…do your, “hush child” response.

you seem to be itching to dive into this Ukraine argument fully on the side of Biden and his foreign policy.

Oh BS, BS, BS!

You see any criticism of your out-of-control, often nasty mouth as pro-Ukraine, pro-Biden. Don't be a simpleton. The world is far more complicated. I've seen you do this many times over the past several months. You cut off your nose to spite your face.

YOU and Williams made this about Ukraine. I was focused on Russia and then you threw in NATO. I responded to that.

Watch who you’re talking to.

It's you who has engaged me over the course of the last week. I respond to your comments to me, not the other way around. You appear annoyed at these Ukraine threads, just as I am of your Sunday morning messes. The difference being I wouldn't comment on them, so it's puzzling why you're on these. But it's America, and FR is truly Free, so Enjoy!

I have been a FReeper since the beginning. I have always worked on the veteran side of things, serving with Jim Robinson on the board of VetsCor.

I am getting tired and disgusted with all these threads that put down our servicemen and military in order to make Russians or Chinese look invulnerable.

Conservatives don’t do that. Calling them gay or saying people who disagree with you are fags is more than childish and should stop. It is the politicians who push this gay ideology on the military. They’re as much victims of the powers-that-be as us conservatives. We don’t hate gays, we just want to be left alone and not worship somebody sexual proclivities, no?

My point on all these threads is no one has to do that. Logically push your case, but instantly resorting to gay this or that is gay itself.

I thought I could point that out this past week on these Ukraine threads. But I will never stand by and say nothing when my country (not the government) is being insulted. The military of the USA is not supposed to be political, as much as the woke would like.

Also, you completely miss the reason for the Sunday Show threads. No one is eagerly following them or the retards that host them. in fact, the opposite.

Politically Washington works by trying out all their lies and narratives for the week on Sunday, via the shows. McCain and Biden were the perennial guest 20 years ago. Whatever nonsense they were pushing/talking about started there.

Why do people post articles from mainstream media? Because they believe it? NO!

They want the nonsense to be out there, public and then tore apart by other FReepers. That IS the essence of Free Republic, and why it's lasted so long.

Same thing as the Sunday shows. Even Tony Snow, who used to be the FNS host, and went on to be Bush's press secretary told us, that the various network hosts would read our Sunday news show comments ot see if they could get away with it. He praised us saying, “Nope, nothing get’s by FReepers.”

Anyway, no one twists anyone's arms to any particular thread on Free Republic, but I'll bet you don't let a Ukraine or Russia thread go by without taking a look and often making a comment.

Thanks. Let’s all pray it stays that way. It’s not our war.

There’s been hundreds of wars around the world over the past 250 years that America never fought in, thank God. We have, however traded with countries at war, sold food and weapons to countries at war.

We should not be a one-way debit card for countries at war—that goes too far.

AB does a GREAT job on the Sunday threads, which are much appreciated by most everyone, especially us long timers.

He’s also doing a good job here pointing out that even if you hate the war, which pretty much everyone here does, i’s no reason to root for Russia.

Before anyone claims that’s not what they were doing, just realize it can quickly look that way even if that’s not what was intended.
