But most people do not think that today's federal holiday for the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. ranks up there as one of the nation's important ones. America was pressured into observing this, people just felt it wasn't worth the fight. That "statue" is horrendous, so perfectly fitting.

MLK is MORE important now, as they try to hide his "content of their character" message.
That sculpture is gross.

One out of three people are completely retarded or lying.
Some black guy getting killed is most important?
More so than Independence or Veterans?
F these 34%.

From a historical importance...
Honestly I’d put Juneteenth way above MLK.
Celebrating the ending of slavery is a far bigger deal than on man’s birthday.
Washington helped make this Nation happen.
Lincoln saved and preserved it.
MLK was an important historical figure, but I don’t believe he’s on that level.
And if the recent allegations about his personal behavior are true.. it’s disturbing on all sorts of levels.
To: billorites
Methinks the myth about MLK being conservative is right up there with JFK being one.
Both men were politicians first and foremost, and I believe if both were alive today, they would be running around with gay pride flags, defending infanticide without limits, demanding an end to fossil fuels, and being in lock step with every other contemporary anti-American leftist.
I believe this is true based on the behavior of their surviving family members and proteges.
Look no further than Ted Kennedy, Jessie Jackson, and Rafael Warnock for examples.

MLk is the only American to have a specific holiday. Washington and Lincoln were relegated to “Presidents’ Day”.

I think America reached perfectly equal opportunity and race-neutral outlook about 25-30 years ago. Since then, we have regressed, become more obsessed with race, and have instituted reverse discrimination against whites (and Asians) in favor of less qualified blacks.

No, I believe that it will be supplanted in national memory by the Juneteenth holiday.

That is beyond hideous. Of course, King was a serial philanderer, so maybe this monstrosity is telling that nearly hidden part of his story. Shrug. If you look at the photo this thing is supposedly representing, King is giving Coretta a big hug, but she is not reciprocating.
