What should you wear to work if you’re nonbinary?

What should you wear to work if you’re nonbinary?

It may not be the most pressing question that gender-nonconforming people face on the job, but with approximately 1.2 million LGBTQ+ Americans identifying as nonbinary, employers and employees alike are exploring what professional attire can look like.

“I think people treat me with more dignity when I dress more masculinely, but people are way nicer to me when I dress more femininely,” said El Layla Johnson, 33, a former restaurant server who is now a therapist.

For Johnson, getting dressed for work has been a struggle since adolescence.

“I just feel like there’s a manual or rule book that people receive and that my copy got lost in the mail,” Johnson said.

Johnson recalled regularly crying while getting dressed for work at an upscale restaurant in Seattle. It wasn’t just that they found the restaurant’s dress code to be ugly. Johnson had a hard time finding clothes that fit at all.

Excellent news on the car! I’ve never heard of water pipes being in the ceiling until I moved here, and it seems to be a heckuva way to ruin your entire house in a bad freeze.

Probably those things keep being reorganized in IT because the ones who are doing the organizing aren’t WITH IT, and therefore, don’t know what changes will be beneficial to the IT personnel. They need to take heed to “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”

Good job or the fourtle!

Isn’t there enough evidence on how to do things right yet?

Yes, but as you know, doing things right isn't always the main motivation...

The former is a WWII movie with a young Richard Burton and a younger Clint Eastwood. The latter is a psycho-thriller with James Caan and Olivia de Havilland.

Both are awesome! They may be streaming if you check...I know “The Blob” is on stream!

There was a visit from Jake, and DP still has a cold. I’ve done several Things this morning. I just went out to take some trash to the bin on the curb and found it’s not cold outside, so I stopped and pulled up some weeds from the front flowerbed.

I’m sorry to hear that DP is still suffering. Best wishes for his rapid recovery.

I finally had enough of the basin in the bathroom backing up, so I taped up the overflow and went after the drain with a plunger. Right now, it’s draining freely, but I’ll check it periodically during the day, just to make sure.

I’ve listened to a couple of uplifting talks, but now, I need to go fold my dainties, put them away and make the bed. Then, who knows what’s next?

Mona came over last night, just about the time I picked up my Scriptures and started to study them. She stayed about an hour, which is about usual. Her ex-husband is staying with her for a few days, back up here from LA, where his daughters live. I guess it’s only a four or five hour drive, but he still has a doctor here.

Anyway, I was wired, as usual, by the time she left so the night wasn’t a good one.

FS will take me to get laundry money tomorrow and then we will watch a movie. I’m so looking forward to it!

I just got back from Walmart: the bros wanted more cold medicine. Now I need to make supper before we leave for Kathleen’s art class at the library. One thing after another. I’d like a nap with Jake, but it will have to be another day.

I’m getting that achy feeling again, so I’m guessing we’re back to the ol’ CFIDS cycle once more. *sigh* It makes my Tired ache!

How was Kathleen’s art class? Did you find something good to read at the library?

I remember Office Space pretty well.

Did you get the new TPS cover sheet? If you could use that going forward, that would be great.

Kathleen had a good time. I drew a picture of the library ceiling which looks like ... a ceiling ... and started reading a book about travel in Turkey.

Laughed the hardest over the recovering street thug hawking magazines door-to-door when he turned out to be an out-of-work CompSci grad.

Some ceilings are very pretty. Others are just ... ceilings.

Turkey and Syria are really hurting, right now. I feel so bad for the innocents - 7200 dead so far.
