What should you wear to work if you’re nonbinary?

What should you wear to work if you’re nonbinary?

It may not be the most pressing question that gender-nonconforming people face on the job, but with approximately 1.2 million LGBTQ+ Americans identifying as nonbinary, employers and employees alike are exploring what professional attire can look like.

“I think people treat me with more dignity when I dress more masculinely, but people are way nicer to me when I dress more femininely,” said El Layla Johnson, 33, a former restaurant server who is now a therapist.

For Johnson, getting dressed for work has been a struggle since adolescence.

“I just feel like there’s a manual or rule book that people receive and that my copy got lost in the mail,” Johnson said.

Johnson recalled regularly crying while getting dressed for work at an upscale restaurant in Seattle. It wasn’t just that they found the restaurant’s dress code to be ugly. Johnson had a hard time finding clothes that fit at all.

I think playing with venomous fish is discouraged as being a low-value activity. She could fight a shark if necessary, of course.

Well, yes, venomous sea creatures are rather low on my list of animals to play with, as well. I don’t blame Elen for not wanting to indulge. I think she’s a smart marine!

Good job, Sgt. Elen!!

Venomous, schmenomous. Poison’s nothing to be afraid of.

Wait, why can’t I feel my left arm?

She says they went hiking.

I’m cooking some rice to go with Some Leftovers for supper. Kathleen and I have Cub Scouts.

Does Tinian have mountains? I’ve forgotten my war history/geography.

The Tired is beginning to creep up on me again so I’m going to call it a night. The barometer is dropping and my neck is hurting, so it’s best that I find another position to be in.

I’ll see you in the morning. Unless I’m up in the middle of the night again....

Thanks! We will!

This time, it’s “Where Eagles Dare,” and I haven’t seen it for a very long time. He hasn’t either, and he picked it. Next time, it will be my turn to pick and we’ll watch “Lady in a Cage,” James Caan’s first movie — at 17. VERY good movie!!

Did you get your power back on?

Not much of a hike, then. More like a walk in the park for a marine!

SUCCESS!

Brussels sprouts everyone will actually WANT to eat!

“What hideous and unnatural dark art can this be?”

Well may you ask...

I halved about 20-25 fresh sprouts and simmered them in a large skillet preheated with ~1/3c water, 1 small chopped onion, 2 cloves minced garlic, 1/4c melted butter, and a dusting of Pappy’s Choice Seasoning

https://www.pappysfinefoods.com/seasonings/pappys-choice-seasoning-5oz

Got everything good and hot before adding the sprouts, made sure they were all cut side down in the skillet, then let them simmer until very tender.

For about the last 5min I laid some leftover Costco rotisserie chicken on top to get it reheated through, then served all of it together.

I’ve never had better Brussels sprouts in my entire life.

I actually like Brussel sprouts as long as they’re simmered in butter.

Done ‘em that way before, though not ONLY butter; garlic, too.
This, with the onions and the seasoning — another world again.

Good morning. Happy Twosday.

I got the car sold. Apparently the CarMax had a pipe burst on Saturday so I guess it wasn’t so bad that we just had one freeze.

We had an announcement of a reorganization of IT. As usual, the decisions were made from the top down. As usual, it will be very disruptive to implement with little to no advantage. Why do these things keep happening? Isn’t there enough evidence on how to do things right yet?

Oh, well, they’ll keep paying.

Again with 4.

Go watch “Office Space,” again.

Yes, it’s cynical, but accurate. Like “Dilbert,” which soared to popularity on the strength of its “Oh, God how we wish it weren’t true” connections to Real Life “in the office.”

Good morning. Pleased the car is sold.

Happy Trash Day!

It’s “bulk pickup day,” too, and scavengers are going around looking for stuff they can use. I might do the same if it were a warmer day ;-).

I’ve always liked Brussels sprouts with butter and salt. But like mushrooms, I think they’re an acquired taste.

Gorgeous little floof!

Good morning. I hope you slept well, without too many disturbances.

I don’t know what today will bring besides rain.

I’ve got the S-L-O-W-s so there is no way I can get going and get to Kroger for quarters for laundry. Maybe tomorrow. I want a nap but I don’t think that’s going to happen.

So it will just be a Day.
