At Least 80 Illinois County Sheriffs Will Refuse to Enforce State's New Gun Laws

At least 80 county sheriffs and prosecutors have vowed not to enforce the new Illinois gun control law that bans 170 kinds of semi-automatic rifles and places limits on ammunition magazines.

“The right to keep and bear arms for defense of life, liberty and property is regarded as an inalienable right by the people,” said Iroquois County Sheriff Clinton Perzee. “I, among many others, believe that [House Bill 5471] is a clear violation of the 2nd Amendment to the US Constitution,” he added.

Perzee said he would not use his jail to detain people solely for violating the new gun law.

“[N]either myself nor my office will be checking to ensure that lawful gun owners register their weapons with the State, nor will we be arresting or housing law abiding individuals that have been arrested solely with non-compliance of this Act,” Perzee said.

Governor J.B. Pritzker reminded the sheriffs that they took an oath to uphold the law. “As law enforcement, that’s their job and I expect them to do that job,” Pritzker said.

“It’s political grandstanding by elected officials. These are elected sheriffs,” Pritzker said during an evening interview with MSNBC.

Illinois gun rights groups are lining up to sue the state over the law. The “Protect Illinois Communities Act” bans 170 brands of semi-automatic rifles, limits ammunition magazines in pistols and rifles, and forces those with legal semi-automatic rifles to register their guns by Jan. 1, 2024.

The Illinois State Police are so understaffed right now they can’t even manage traffic on the highways around Chicago.

Here's what's generally not known outside of Illinois about that specific shooting, some of which I did not know myself until it was talked about on the news ONE TIME:

Illinois has a RED FLAG law.

The Highland Park police dropped the ball, and neglected to notify the IL State Police - as they were legally mandated to do per the "red flag" law - which then resulted in the shooter being able to legally acquire the AR-15 he used.

All the laws existed on the books to "prevent" that shooting, and they all FAILED. Deliberate? Hmmm.

So, why pass an "assault weapons" ban? To cover up the fact above.

Legal gun owners in this state KNOW the facts above. Dimwit Democrat voters and "suburban moms" do not. If they did, one would think they'd be livid right?

Nope. Here in Hellinois logic and reason is scant in existence.

I'm househunting in SE Tennessee. I expect to be out of this state within a year.

Eff Hellinois.

Just like what happened in New Zealand, when the Australian national (who was not legally able to own a firearm) shot up the Christchurch mosque...he had applied for a firearm license that involved a background check, and two references that had to be interviewed by the national police. His references were either completely fake, or real gun club members that didn’t know him...the police rubber-stamped their approval without ever investigating him.

That was reported only once, then swept under the rug as PM Ardern began pushing the ban on semiautomatic rifles.

Governor J.B. Pritzker reminded the sheriffs that they took an oath to uphold the law.

A law that is unconstitutional is a legal nullity. See Marbury vs. Madison.

Governor separates elected officials from unelected officials. He doesn’t like one and considers himself the other?

The Highland Park, IL shooting that happened here was the "justification" to pass this unConstitutional "law."

Problem is, IL also has red-flag laws on the books that were supposed to stop this shooting from happening. The shooter is a mentally disturbed individual, should never have been allowed to get his FOID card (which his own father co-signed for and LIED that his son wasn't a danger to the community despite NUMEROUS calls to the family home) and the Highland Park, IL police themselves neglected to notify the IL State Police (responsible for background checks) that the shooter was a danger to himself and the community.

So in passing IL's unConstitutional "assault weapons" ban, it was done for two reasons:

1. Placate the gun-grabbing Democrat core constituency;
2. Cover-up law enforcements complete FAILURE to have prevented the shooting from happening in the first place.

More laws aren't the problem. Accountability for one's actions are.

The dad belongs in jail for lying on the FOID form, the "kid" belongs in jail for killing multiple people and those responsible in the Highland Park Police Department who dropped the ball enabling this shooting to happen, all need to be fired and brought up on charges themselves.

In a true and just world, that's what would've happened.

Instead, an inanimate object called an "assault weapon" and us legal gun owners all get blamed to cover up this complete fiasco.

Effing ridiculous.
