"In 1964, hoping to erase its image as a privileged cloister for white rich families, Wesleyan University contacted 400 Black high school students from around the country to persuade them to apply.
The outreach led to the enrollment of what became known as Wesleyan’s “vanguard” class — one Latino and 13 Black students — which helped establish the university’s commitment to diversity.
Nearly 60 years later, such recruitment practices face an existential threat."

Americans Evaluate What Colleges Should Consider
Shouldn’t Be Considered
Community service - 33%
First in family to go to college - 54%
Athletic ability - 55%
Race or ethnicity - 74%
Whether a relative attended the college - 75%
Gender - 82%
Leftist ideologues remain in control of college admissions—the only fix for this is to turn many of these universities into homeless shelters.
Universities have had their place in history—now it is time for them to go away....
So are they saying that left to their own devices, universities will intentionally not admit black students in 2023…that is while 90% of the staff and administrators are full bore left wing woke ideologues? or are they saying that whites and asians are supremier? It is one or the other…which is it?
Affirmative action has already rendered a college degree virtually worthless to employers as a measure of competence. Eliminating it won’t change that.
Neither affirmative action, nor equity programs, nor CRT nor any kind of preferential treatment, have helped blacks or any other minority to achieve independence from government subsidies or handouts or programs. In fact, what’s happened is that, more and more of the minorities populations have become more dependent.
Affirmative action and equity policies, are only used by democrats as sales tactics in order to gain votes from blacks and other minorities, and as long as those groups keep buying the nonsense from democrats, they will be kept dependent on government, meaning that the tactic by democrats has and will continue to work.
Only high-paid sports and entertainment stars and a small percentage of blacks/hispanics/other-minorities, have been able to get off ‘the reservation’, sort to speak.
And, the black pimps in congress and in entertainment, are just as guilty as the leading democrats in keeping their people suppressed and dependent.
It’s not going to change as long as blacks and Hispanics keep taking scraps being offered by democrats. And as a black or Hispanic, don’t you dare become a republican or speak ill of the democrats plans, or you’ll get cancelled or condemned, or worse.
Is the NYSlimes saying that blacks don’t have the wherewithal to make it to college on merit?
Sounds pretty racist to me.
We have reached peak “higher education.”
It’s only function now is to bury unsuspecting 18-year olds under crushing “student loan” debt so that affirmative action “perfessers” of imaginary subjects can have jobs.
End credential inflation, now!
It has also done a huge disservice for competent, deserving blacks. Every black that has a position of some prestige is looked at as an affirmative action hire.
YEAH, maybe they’ll have to have taken calculus...

Right. We'll never end discrimination by discriminating.

Yes, socialism/communism will always be attractive to those who think they can get something for nothing.

Blacks need to accept that they are equal and start performing equally, instead of blaming all their problems on whitey.
Where I did my bachelors degree, we had the university president retire halfway though my time there. The new college president, a black man, decided to market the college heavily toward inner city youths.
From an academic view, it was a disastrous move. The number of undergrads went from 11,000 to 7,000 in just a few years. The campus had significant crime problems including a shooting in the dorms. The “town and gown” relations soured.
From a business standpoint is was brilliant. Recruiting many unqualified students (admission standards were dropped precipitously) brought students that needed two years of remediation (there were dozens sections of remedial math and remedial English) before they were able to compete on a college level.
This meant that the school would be getting six years of tuition instead of four fir a lot of kids.m. Many students came with Pell Grants. It was a winfdfall.
Several years of this and the president was given a very lucrative package to redesign and a new president was brought in. We’ll see how he does trying to reconstitute the university. It’s a big, heavy lift. I wish him well.
bkmk
I know it would cut down on idiots getting student loan refunds for not being able to cut it.
Outreach was needed for black kids coming from Jim Crow 'separate but unequal' schools. Wesley's choice at the time was courageous and made sense.
That's not the case today.
Today that style of 'recruitment' - based on pigmentation - not injustice - isn't fair or just. It doesn't help the 'black community' or many of the black students. Dignity today is treating all kids the same - one standard...
Affirmative action is government enforced racism and it was forced upon us by democrat party judges on the supreme court like that loser ginsberg.
When I started my career in a laboratory, there were no PhDs working there and they had just hired their first employee with a Masters degree. By the time I retired, they would only hire PhDs. The jobs had not changed but the quality of education had.
