The strongest economy in Europe is reduced to this.

The predictions and posts weren’t just about mass freezing deaths but also mass hunger and even starvation.

The strongest economy in Europe...

Well, that hasn't been all THAT impressive for a few years now, anyway. The Green agenda tends to be rather like an albatross.

I’m going to guess Germany had stockpiled enough and the winter turned out mild enough for Europe to Eek eke out a safe transition.

The "transition" is far from complete, but you are otherwise generally correct in your assessment.

Russia now has to kill as many Ukrainians as possible to survive as a Nation, barring the West and Ukraine actually sitting down to a peace agreement.

The West and Ukraine "sitting down to a peace agreement negotiation" at this time would be tantamount to initiating peace talks with Hitler shortly before his suicide in the Führerbunker.

Putin has namely made it clear that any "peace agreement" he will sign has to effectively reward him for launching his unprovoked attack against peaceful Ukraine.

You can't negotiate with someone having that attitude.

Regards,

My original and current hope is that Europe has a bad enough close call with energy uncertainty, that not only will the ties with Russia be cut permanently, but that voters and politics bring some sanity to the war against dependable energy sources.

You guys only overpaid $1 trillion in energy bills and had a great deal of industries shut down. But luckily no crisis.

Because Angela Merkel tied Germany to Russian gas and she also shut down German nuclear power stations

A third? Not if you realize cold weather and the need for heating can persist through April. The only reason there isn’t a heating crisis yet is because Europe is going through a bit of a winter “heat wave” - kind of a providential save.

If this reverses next month Germany will be in for a world of hurt. Britain is already having a terrible time with heating bills.

Germans have survived winter without Russian gas for all of history except the last maybe 25 years

It’s only a matter of time, mein Berliner. You will eventually face crippling energy shortages, deindustrialization and economic collapse. You made it through one month of one winter, wow! How about a year from now? Two, three winters from now? Turnips and poverty are your future, unfortunately.

Prices are normal because of LNG and a winter “heat wave”. That’s temporary. LNG is unsustainable and winters eventually get very cold. One month of one winter is not exactly predictive of the future. There will come a winter very soon where a deindustrialized Germany can neither heat its homes nor sustain its people. Read the writing on the wall.

You’re ignoring skyrocketing energy bills all over, from California to Scotland. This energy shortage is going to get very, very real - including in Germany. We are only one month into the first winter of this. Give it a few winters! Collapse is coming.
