The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and FBI coordinate to track the gun purchases of specific individuals through the federal background check system, according to documents that Second Amendment advocacy group Gun Owners of America obtained via a Freedom of Information Act request.
Shared exclusively with the Epoch Times, the documents include communications in which ATF agents request the monitoring of specific gun purchasers by means of the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) in a system the FBI dubs the "NICS Monitoring Services."
Federal agents, at the behest of the ATF, then manually check the NICS on a daily basis to see whether an individual the ATF flagged has purchased a firearm. The ATF appears to be using this system to monitor suspected criminals or straw purchasers.
NICS works to stop individuals banned from purchasing firearms from doing so. A prospective gun purchase must clear the background check before the dealer may complete the sale. Federal law also requires that the NICS record of a gun purchase be deleted after 24 hours. Hence, the need for the FBI to check the system daily.
This process may go on indefinitely. One email from an FBI agent to an ATF official confirming a specific monitoring request indicated the agent was prepared to routinely monitor one suspect for roughly an entire year.

It is interesting how these little gov’t agencies all of a sudden become small dictatorial powers exceeding there various charters and jumping on Moms and Dads to satisfy their egos.
I have been saying these clowns have been doing exactly this, since I was 14.
This should be no surprise to that they do this.
If you got a check on it, they know you have it.
Defund the FEDS and ABOLISH Federali law enforcement
Apparently they are tracking certain crack addicted President’s sons purchases.
Pre-crime.
I trust all agencies 100%
I trust that they will do what all govt entities have done since the creation of mankind.
Time for a shipload of lawsuits. The weaponized government agencies are violating the Bill of Rights. Time to throw some arse in prison.
Oh heck no, this is just to track Republicans with
to track specific purchasers excluding those who would be school shooters we will just watch them and respond when the deed is done
Not everyone has their rights trashed, however.
Detailed reports of crimes will include the police said the gang members used stolen guns, or the weapon used had no traceable serial numbers, because of the suspect’s felony convictions in the past he possessed the gun illegally or the parolee stole a weapon on the way to the home invasion.
Criminals don’t believe in background checks or permits. Only the innocent citizen victims cooperate.
So is this fast and furious 2.0 gun sting but the ATF
Surprise! The fbi and atf are the enemy.
Would love to see stats:
Straw purchases stopped
Felons arrested from 4473’s
% of 4473’s stopping a crime
Zero,
Zero,
and Zero
Tracked all guns except those allowed to be be shipped to drug cartels in Maexico with Obama’s permission.
MileHi is exactly right. The answers are all zero. Agents actually have to come to the gun shops and read the records to get a place to start. The 4473 records produce nothing directly but they do help with tracing guns that might get misused.
As a point of interest up thru the late 70’s dealers were required to keep a log book of handgun ammo purchases. Not once, not ever, were those records used to track anything so the requirement for the log was finally dropped. Same is true for 4473’s. They are useless on the prevention side.
Since NICS there is no longer any reason for 4473 forms, if there ever was. And the NICS has no legitimate to record firearm type or serial numbers. Just NI Check S the buyer and if he good what does it matter what he/she is buying?
