i’ll re-rate McGope when i see how he ‘handles’ the debt ceiling increase.
I’ll wait 6 months or so to see how much pre-election promise has wound up the memory hole...
That also includes the degree to which he holds to the compromises he agreed to in order to get his testicles out of the vice...
My bet is that he starts out as McArthur (spelled wrong I know), BUT ENDS UP McBoehner.
Not long ago I heard a Congressman state on TV during an interview that he never receives letters about constituents’ positions or recommendations of bills being considered.
Maybe it is time for FR contributors to change that and become frequent correspondents with out Congress critters.
no kidding. i email/call the offices of my critters whenever a big issue comes up. the responses are usually canned, so who knows what gets through to them to them.
They only take calls from contributors, bundlers and lobbyists - in reverse order.
I give him an A. I wasn’t expecting him to be so strong. Pleasantly surprised.
Well, aside from your GREAT advice, and we really all owe it to our beliefs to do so, that Congressman could just be lying or being lied to by his staff.
Normally it is they who blow off the constituents, not the constituents ignoring them.
You get responses? From Republicans? In my life I’ve pretty much only gotten replies from Democrats from the White House to the Congress to the state houses. Rand Paul is an exception.
It was a decent press conference and he didn’t shy away from the questions.
These guys are all “professional speakers,” and like I’ve heard said often enough . . . “Talk is cheap.”
I can’t judge a thing from a smooth talking congressman plying his trade.
yes. from dems in CA or reps in TN, it’s all very similar. canned platitudes and placation, or i’ll deliver your message, etc., etc.

I’m glad to hear that, since there has been so much ‘noise’ about McCarthy from negafreepers.
Congressman Steve Stivers from Ohio was fantastic. We had a huge issue in closing a home in his district. We purchased a bank owned home in 2009 and scheduled fo close. Several days before we were advised that Obama’s bank takeover involved this home, which was suddenly owned by the government, it would take up to six months to get it resolved. Stivers dug in and we were able to close on time. Prior, his office always responded to any communication, one time even taking my call, personally.
We now live in Nancy Maces district in SC, she never returns correspondence, not even with a form letter. No one is ever in her district office. I have experienced this as well as many other constituents I have spoken with, she is abysmal, which is why I did not vote for her and never will.
What he didn’t say was that his staffers filter all that correspondence. And quite frankly, letters?
Who in the hell sends letters anymore?
Emails. Ones he never sees because his staffers send back vanilla responses.
And yet, she handily won rd-election. Hmmmm

SO far he is doing good, but the real test is coming with the debt
What I’ve seen looks pretty good.
