Yes, actually we are short on cops. The two counties here (Yuba and Sutter) are constantly advertising for deputy positions... also emergency dispatchers seem to be in short supply.

Years ago the Mexican citizens I knew in Mexico told me openly how corrupt their police were, and believed that, by comparison, the police in the US were much less corrupt, and the US police who were corrupt would be punished. Looks like that difference will disappear if Newsom gets his way. And it’s not just police. Look at DHS under Mayorkas and DOJ under Garland.
