Gov. DeSantis goes off on ‘hostile nation’ China, looks to ban it from buying land in Florida

Governor Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) is branding China a “hostile nation” and is warning them to stay out of the Sunshine State’s real estate market, telling the Chinese Communist Party their investments are not welcome in Florida.

DeSantis gave a speech on Tuesday making his views toward China crystal clear, “We don’t want to have holdings by hostile nations. If you look at the Chinese Communist Party, they’ve been very active throughout the Western Hemisphere in gobbling up land and investing in different things.”

He went on to state that it is not in Florida’s best interests to have “the Chinese Communist Party owning farmland, owning land close to military bases,” and then asked why Americans would ever want the Communist Party owning “residential developments or subdivisions.”

Under DeSantis’ leadership, the state legislature has passed laws forbidding the China-backed Confucius Institutes from funding research at state colleges in Florida. The infiltration into colleges by alleged Chinese spies is something that the governor took note of and vowed to stop. He believes that the Chinese funding efforts are part of an effort to “bring propaganda” to Florida by communists.

“I think we’re going to go even further on that. The legislature only went so far a couple years ago. I think they’re going to have an appetite to do more because [China’s] influence on our society has been very insidious,” DeSantis noted in his speech.

God bless him. The Confucius Institutes are the most blatant means of communist Chinese to infiltrate and spy on American universities. They just bought their way in, exposing University administrators as the feckless whores they are. Likewise the land grabbing going on has been shameless and has exposed various state governments as pusillanimous hacks.

I don’t know about them all, but the with the red blooded American sounding name Smithfield is definitely one the Chinese own.

China should be isolated, and starved off, just as we did the USSR. Can you imagine us building factories in East Germany and Russia, and letting them use those profits to buy American companies and land, back when the USSR was the world’s biggest communist threat?

No, but that the level of insanity that’s been going on with China. People have been aware of it for a while, now maybe something will finally be done about it.

You know if Nixon hadn't gone to China and if Clinton hadn't given them our sensitive military technology, China would still be a backwards-ass third-world nation.

Everything China has today it has stolen from the U.S. or other nations. They cannot create or build on their own.

I’ll bet they have spies near every major military installation, especially those with heavy bombers.

I guess you’re not a fan of gunpowder or pasta then.

Well that’s the number one indication he’s not owned by China....that’s exactly what Trump did...called out China every chance he got. And the politicians China owned made sure Trump was removed from office.

Both discovered by accident.

China could never have built the technological and infrastructure superiority they enjoy now without stealing it from Western nations.

Are you in favor of shutting down the 21 foreign owned car/truck plants in the US?

As was most technology ever invented.

“China could never have built the technological and infrastructure superiority they enjoy now without stealing it from Western nations.”

Sure, but it doesn’t follow from that observation that they are incapable of creating anything, like some tribe in the jungle still stuck in the stone age.

No question. Nixon historians claim that he believed you could not try to take on China and the USSR at the same time and succeed, so he decided the USSR was the bigger threat and decided to focus on them first. That effort was ultimately successful. Doesn't explain or excuse how China was able to take advantage of the US during that period, to some extent, but the fact of the matter is, they did.

It's also often said that the Chinese people have been led by tyrants for so long, their individualism and intrinsic ability to lead/create was destroyed, and that they cannot succeed without our leadership over their businesses. Much the same has been said about the Saudi oil industry, and most of it is likely true, although we have lost quite a bit of control over these countries as they inevitably began learning to stand on their own.
