Taylor Dudley, a U.S. Navy veteran held in detention in Russia for nearly a year, was released Thursday, according to his family.

Dudley was detained by Russian border patrol police in April after crossing from Poland into Kaliningrad. He was backpacking in Europe and looking for inspiration for possibly writing a book.

The Richardson Center for Global Engagement, a nonprofit founded by former New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, spearheaded the negotiations for Dudley's release.

"Earlier today, Russian authorities released American Citizen Taylor Dudley, a 35-year-old Navy veteran, across the Polish border to Gov. Bill Richardson, his team, and a representative from the U.S. Embassy in Warsaw, a release the Richardson Center worked on diligently and quietly for more than 6 months with significant assistance from the Steve Menzies Global Foundation, from Hostage U.S., and from the James Foley Foundation," family spokesman Jonathan Franks said in a statement.

Mission accomplished. Now he has plenty to write about

I was thinking the same thing. What was he thinking?

How much did they have to pay for him? And to whom?

Dudley was particularly lucky, he did not have "Diplomats" like Biden and Blinken demanding his release or shooting their mouths off.

That pretty much assured that the Russians, once they verified his story as truthful, would release him.

Every single news source gives the same BS filler

Did he cross illegally? Did he have a visa? If so, why was he arrested?

Only one source added that “he was attending a music festival in Poland” and also the comment: “His family declined to comment why Dudley chose to cross from Poland to Kaliningrad.”

“looking for inspiration for possibly writing a book”

Well he should have plenty of material now.

Pretty sure Dudley's advocates had to make considerable "campaign contributions" to Biden, and gifts to Blinken for their silence.

There might not have been any $ left over for the Russians.

Did he cross illegally?

Yes.

Did he have a visa?

Yes.

If so, why was he arrested?

Because the method he chose to cross the border was illegal, he avoided a border checkpoint.

And I forgot, Dudley’s family also has to pay Biden with their Silence.

According to CNN, the US State Department did not deem the detention "wrongful". In this environment, I take this to mean he must have clearly broken the law.

Still, its good that he's coming home.

Didn’t see this post earlier. If he crossed without going through a border checkpoint, he entered Russia illegally. It is a “no-brainer” why he was arrested.

Glad he’s back. Wasn’t detained as long as our citizens still are for being at the January 6th protests.

That basketball player, Brian Griner admitted to breaking the law, but Biden did not say he was rightly held.

He may also have been abducted by the Russians and taken back to Russia. It’s not like they don’t do this kind of thing.

Taken back to Russia? It seems he entered Kaliningrad (which is Russia!) illegally! Where would they take him “back” to?
