The link is to a list of Illinois County Sheriffs who are refusing to enforce the new gun ban law signed by Pritzer recently. To date there are over 70 counties refusing to enforce this illegal act by Illinois.
Of course they are.
Why?
Because it applies to THEM AS WELL...............
Good! A 2nd Amendment supporting Sheriff is important for upholding the rights of the citizens. Thankfully, I live in a county where our Sheriff is adamant that he will not enforce unconstitutional laws. I realize some people aren’t so lucky.
GOOD
What’s the actual law?
Are local LEOs empowered to go house to house and do detailed searches?
A shout out to all seventy sheriffs with a backbone willing to uphold the US Constitution in Illinois. FWIW: There are 102 counties in Ill-annoy, so- 32 IL. counties need the citizens to grow spines and compel their sheriffs to get onboard the Constitution’s 2nd Amendment protections of our unalienable rights.
Sheriff Mark Landers, of Logan County, IL, (my former hometown lies within the county’s borders) is one of the American patriots on board with the pledge not to enforce this fascist gun grab by that morbidly obese governor ‘spit’ Pritzker (oligarch) and the always anti-American socialist, communist- Democrat majority in the state legislature.
Hold The Line!
You know- the thing!
This may well be posturing, especially if they don’t have any particular role to play.
Now, what is the Illinois State Police doing?
70 out of 102 is a solid majority. Good on them.
The SCOTUS has made several recent rulings that make it obvious that this law is unconstitutional. Sheriffs are right not to enforce an unconstitutional law.
“This may well be posturing, especially if they don’t have any particular role to play.”
I’m not sure what you mean, exactly, but sheriffs are VERY powerful. Their role could mean refusing to arrest a citizen for certain weapons issues. They even supersede FBI if FBI gets heavy handed in their counties — can bounce their asses out of the jurisdiction.
These 'laws' are about protecting criminals from being shot while committing a crime.
Democrat thugs ARE the party of criminals - they're not stupid they're protecting their own.
“The law took effect immediately with Pritzker’s signature. It allows those who already own the now-banned firearms to retain them, but requires that the owners register the guns with the Illinois State Police.”
From another thread.
Remember back to 1989 when California did the same thing, many of the sheriffs said they would not enforce the law.
as it should. ... And police departments ... and the IL National guard. If you disarm the militia, you should disarm the government as well.
Doesn’t matter, FFL dealers can’t well them and online distributors won’t ship high cap magazines to them.
At least one border county (McCracken, in KY) has issued a similar and mildly lengthy statement too, tho’ I’ve not yet found it online.
I’m guessing this law will be the impetus for another couple hundred thousand citizens, if not more, to escape IL, so maybe the KY Sheriffs feel obligated to tell otherwise law abiding Illinoisians they won’t be checked coming in...
It will be interesting to see if a few more Sheriffs from mostly rural counties but with a liberal county seat (Alexander, for example) will issue similar statements. I certainly don’t think most want any part of confronting defiant* (and otherwise law abiding) citizens.
*Strong statement from IL State Rep. Blaine Wilhour, R-Beecher City:
“A government unchecked, a government allowed to defy our constitution is a government that is completely out of control. So you can sit here and dictate whatever you want today. Maybe the political wins are in your favor here today. But I can tell you, we will not comply and you’re not gonna do a darn thing about it”.

Now against that, we don’t know how the State Police will react, although they are stretched kinda thin already (they have said previously), and, it especially should be noted that MUNICIPAL police departments would be the enforcers for the vast majority of Illinoisians.
Note the mayor’s statement @ the link, connecting Constitutional gun ownership to terrorism.
Now, I don’t know if the mayor’s attack on our rights is generated by a desire for power, or by fear. But I do know that between desire for power and fear, more tyranny is born of fear.
