Democrat Gov. Signs Illinois’ Ban on Commonly Owned Semiautomatic Rifles, Magazines
Breitbart ^ | 01/12/2023 | AWR HAWKINS

Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D) signed legislation Wednesday night banning commonly owned semiautomatic rifles and magazines which Democrats consider “high capacity.”

The law took effect immediately with Pritzker’s signature. It allows those who already own the now-banned firearms to retain them, but requires that the owners register the guns with the Illinois State Police.

Pritzker’s office released a statement upon his signing of the bill. It said, in part, “The new law also requires existing owners of semi-automatic rifles to register their ownership, ensuring that law enforcement knows the location of these weapons of war and who to hold accountable if they fall into the wrong hands.”

A number of Illinois Sherriffs have release the following statement under their own signature:

"A Statement from Sheriff nnnn nnnnnn:

As your Sheriff, I wanted to give citizens of XXXXXXXX County an update on the recent passage of HB 5471, also known as the Protect Illinois Communities Act.

As your duly elected Sheriff my job and my office are sworn, in fact, to protect the citizens of Winnebago County. This is a job and responsibility that I take with the utmost seriousness.

Part of my duties that I accepted upon being sworn into office was to protect the rights provided to all of us, in the Constitution. One of those enumerated rights is the right of the people to keep and bear arms provided under the 2nd amendment.

The right to keep and bear arms for defense of life, liberty and property is regarded as an inalienable right by the people.

I, among many others, believe that HB 5471 is a clear violation of the 2nd Amendment to the US Constitution.

Therefore, as the custodian of the jail and chief law enforcement official for XXXXXXX County, that neither myself nor my office will be checking to ensure that lawful gun owners register their weapons with the State, nor will we be arresting or housing law abiding individuals that have been arrested solely with non-compliance of this Act."

I’ll say the same thing I said about my former governor, F*CK YOU!

Register my gun with the state? NEVER!

“I’ll give you my gun when you take it from my cold, dead hands!” (and I’m out of ammo)

Now By God, this will teach them pesky, home-owning, taxpaying fools. They can no longer make Illinois unsafe for the favored hardworking burglars and home invaders.

The Supreme Court has made a couple of recent decisions that really reenforced the 2nd Amendment and made clear that commonly used firearms are Constitutional, these types of laws are nothing more than “Virtue Signaling”, I’m sure in a couple of days a lawsuit will get filed, an injunction will be issued stopping the law from going into effect and eventually this law will be overturned.

Since Illinois is releasing criminals in record numbers the idiot politicians have to show the public, they are doing something to lower crime, this is what they do.

Your proposal is acceptable - to them.

I prefer a more positive approach myself.

“the Supreme Court, who have repeatedly struck down similar restrictions since the Bruen decision.”

What similar restriction has been overturned? I’m hopeful that based in the Bruen precedent this kind of ban will be overturned, but I’m not familiar with any cases that have done it yet. I know there a few big cases in California and Oregon right now in this area. Unfortunately, the Supreme Court denied emergency review to the New York CCIA lawsuit yesterday, so courts aren’t being as active as

He’s a globalist/communist POS. Need to ban him and his ilk, not guns.

They’ve already driven most gun dealers out of the state. A co-worker who retired was a firearms instructor and started working at the local gun shop - and then they promptly moved across the border to IN as IL moved into anti-2A mode. From what I heard over 50% shut down or moved out of state a few years ago.

We have family friends in central/southern Illinois that farm over 1K acres. They are all skilled with guns and are avid hunters of deer, bear, etc. They’re so far south they actually have accents, LOL!

I’m certain they’ll stop whatever they’re doing at this moment and lay down their arms.

Not.

Illinois is the stupidest state. Whenever I feel sad about Wisconsin politics, I just look south and I cheer right up!

Actually, if ALL of our individual states would Man Up, this Nation would right itself within a day.
