Banning gas stoves gets Americans’ blood boiling
The Hill ^ | 01/12/2023 | LIZ PEEK, OPINION CONTRIBUTOR

Sometimes it’s the little things – the one indignity too many – that cause people to revolt. Banning new gas stoves, as a commissioner on the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has suggested, could be the diktat that finally brings Americans to rebel against the government’s incessant, autocratic and ultimately insulting intrusion into our daily lives.

The European Union found that out the hard way. Just weeks before the British went to the polls to vote on whether they wanted to remain in the EU, reports leaked that the unelected bureaucrats in Brussels planned to ban electric teakettles that were a staple of British kitchens, because they used too much electricity.

For Americans that might not sound like a big deal, but for the average Brit, already incensed that some 80 percent of new regulations were flowing from Brussels and not Parliament, it was the last straw. The proposed limits on small appliances would have meant that the time required to boil water would have increased from an average two minutes and 30 seconds to five minutes. For a country consuming 62 billion cups of tea each year, that was an affront.

Polling shifted in favor of Brexit, and indeed Great Britain shocked the world in June 2016 by voting to leave the EU.

“I hate my electric stove.”

ME, TOO!
I hate my electric stove.
I hate my electric stove.
I hate my electric stove.
I hate my electric stove.
I hate my electric stove.
I hate my electric stove.

Hubby promised a gas range when we HAD to move to this s**tbox house. It never happened; it never will happen.

“Kathy Hochul just proposed a ban in New York”

It’ll be fun when the hoity-toity chefs decide one day, “We can’t do this any more”, and take their shows on the road — the road south to freedom. Where will the elite go to eat out?

You are right. No food means no freedom. They are trying to deprive us of life.

When we expect the government to wipe every tear and right every wrong is society, soon that government will be dictating the “right” way to wipe our rear.

You’re a better person than I am. Every day when I use that electric stove and its incessant beeping at me, I have MAJOR hostile feelings. (I’m just behind you in age.)

No telling what would have happened if they tried an extra tax on that cup of tea! They might have had a revolution.

Until I was 12 years old, my parents, 6 siblings and I were kept semi warm by a coal fed, pot bellied, stove in the living room. Then, my dad installed a natural gas stove in its place and it had a blower on it, to help distribute the heat. It kept all 9 of us warm and I lost my job of lugging in buckets of coal from the coal shed.

Idaho Senator Risch sent me an email a couple days ago complaining about Biden shutting down the Keystone pipeline, the loss of good high-paying jobs, and ended with “Biden must do something about this.”

I sent him a scathing reply that Biden DID do something about this — he intentionally CAUSED it. Then I ripped Risch for focusing on that dead horse but ignoring this gigantic unconstitutional overreach to ban gas stoves based on completely bogus “science.” They been ban, ban, ban, banning things for far too long. We’ve got to put a stop to the Democrat “ban, ban, ban” mentality and get back to “build, build, build.”

It is so easy to ban things. It is a million times harder to actually build something.

He hasn’t written back.

Kill the beeper. My mom would call me and the extension phone IN THE BEDROOM would ring. Enough was enough. I took the phone apart and cut the dinger off with wire cutters.

“Kill the beeper.”

I wish I could. Just to boil water I have to endure 13 beeps:

Unlock - beep
Power on - beep
Select burner - beep
Turn to highest heat - 9 beeps
Enhance to higher heat - beep

These idiots are not coming up with the ideas.

There is a much bigger agenda created by very smart, very evil people and Booker, AOC, Hochul, etc are just willing pawns.

When my wife and I moved into our house (that she mainly picked) she hated the electric stove. Not only had she had a gas stove for years, but she grew up helping her mother cook and cater. So cooking is very important to her.

Now she loves our electric stove. About the time I told her I was ready to switch it to gas, our gas bills started shooting up, as did our power bills. I told her we could either switch to gas cooking like I promised, our I could do the math and build a strategy to make our house all-electric and install enough solar so that our energy costs will be less than what they were in 2019 (thus getting rid of what's now the past 4 years' worth of energy inflation). She chose financial security over cooking with gas. And she hasn't regretted it.

She now loves cooking with power because to her it's part of our retirement financial planning not being torn apart by the communist Dims' control-freak energy polices. Some of our peers talk about going back to work or working longer before retirement in large part to help pay the sky high power bills, natural gas bills, and cost for gas at the pump.

“Resistive heating is the least efficient.”

A great way to squander your electric generation capacity. In the home, you need electricity to refrigerate and for your A/C unit. You should not be heating or cooking with electricity. Even in rural areas, you can buy a large (outside) submarine tank for propane and get it filled. Oil heat is also very good.
