The morning after the city of Louisville endured its ninth and 10th homicide victims of 2023's first 10 days, Mayor Craig Greenberg brought community leaders together at Metro Hall to call for change and reiterate his commitment to solve the growing crisis.
"That is simply unacceptable. It's tragic," Greenberg said in a news conference Wednesday morning in downtown Louisville. "These are not just numbers. These are people. Ten lives lost. Ten families who have lost a loved one forever. Hundreds of neighbors who have lost a friend. And we are here today because we are one city, plagued by a violent crime emergency."
Greenberg said he's calling on everyone in the city to be part of the change.
"We need everyone's help to stop this violence," he said. "LMPD can not do it on its own, and we should not expect them or want them to do it on its own. Yes, they are part of the solution. They are part of the Louisville family. But we are here today because each and every one of us can be an agent of change."

If only we could get some unity out there.
Seems like the community leaders are fighting against the wishes of the community.
Communities should rise up and say they aren’t going to
take it anymore.
Don’t look the other way. Start turning people in.
Form small groups who are armed and will defend each
other.
Make the gangs afraid of you.
The actual criminals.....meh! Hey ‘mare’.....ππ©
In fact, I think he had Eric Holder stand up a whole Community Activist division within the Department of Justice. Maybe they can help out.
Unity isn't needed.
High velocity lead sent in the direction of the gang-bangers, hoodlums, criminals, "urban utes" that are causing the crime is what's needed.
Clean it up.
I hate the term “gun violence” because it deflects attention away from the actual problem, which of course is violent criminals. They probably also belong to a protected class, and in a democrat controlled city that guarantees that nothing meaningful will ever be done.
Grew up in the city area then went to SW and NE Indiana for jobs in my career. Didnβt really come back for about 30 years except for visits.
after I retired we moved back close and I started REALLY spending some time again in the city, other than rushed visits or shopping trips. Itβs didnβt take me long to realize itβs only the same city by the name and physical features.
They city had became more well..evil and cold. Dangerous and dirty.
Itβs still my home town but I hate it now.
Lousyville better yet Liberalville.
It ain’t gun violence.
Two words: Ahmaud Arbery
There has been one killing each day for the first day of the
year. That telegraphs gang activity to me. I may be off
base. If so, this might not apply.
The idea of small groups to form self-defense networks is
intended to stop gang members from being able to retaliate
if someone tells on them. If someone sees a drive-by
license, and tells the police, there may be an attempt to
institute revenge.
Not looking for someone to patrol or form vigilante groups.
These groups would only spring into action if a neighbor
were to come under attack.
I believe those guys in the incident you mentioned, were
simply racists. If you see it differently, mention it.
I don’t condone what they did at all. Holding the guy for
police would be the only thing they should have done, and
then only if they had direct knowledge he participated in
a crime.
They allowed their baser instincts to take charge, and they
are going to pay a very high price. It won’t be as high as
the one he paid.
This truly angers me.
Why knot channel yuteful energy along these lines?

[It’s all about the violins...]
And their basketball team SUX now.
“We need everyone’s help to stop this violence,” he said. “LMPD can not do it on its own...”
So deputize the law abiding citizens and get out of their way while they clean up the streets for you, chief.
Lol, half the Korean kids I went to school with were on the “Suzuki method”. (the other half were learning piano)
I hear you there, only time husband and I go downtown now is for the occasional concert and to pop in at our favorite store, Caufields. Your description “evil and cold. Dangerous and dirty” is spot on.
Yea the new chief (interim chief, last one resigned when we got the new Mayor) I think she’s the 4th or 5th chief Louisville has had since 2020. Breonna Taylor died in March 2020 but the protests here didn’t start till AFTER George Floyd. Her BF just settled with the City for I think 2 mil. Beronna’s family got 12 mil. In other words, we got problems and their pleading with the people isn’t gonna do squat. But that’s all the Dems have. Words.
Such a statement of “unity” means they plan to institute laws that take away the 2nd Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens. I’ve seen this scenario play out before.
