The United States accused Russian military contractors backed by the Kremlin on Tuesday of interfering in the internal affairs of African countries and “increasing the likelihood that violent extremism will grow” in the Sahel region which is facing increasing attacks and deteriorating security -- an allegation Russia denied.
U.S. deputy ambassador Richard Mills lashed out at the Wagner Group at a U.N. Security Council meeting on West Africa and the Sahel, accusing its paramilitary forces of failing to address the extremist threat, robbing countries of their resources, committing human rights abuses, and endangering the safety and security of U.N. peacekeepers and staff.
France’s political counselor Isis Jaraud-Darnault echoed Mills, saying “the model" used by Wagner mercenaries has proven “totally ineffective in combating terrorism.” He cited the “nefarious” and devastating impact of its work and human rights violations, including the alleged killing of over 30 civilians in Mali, and its pillaging of natural resources.

Seems conflicting to gripe about the Wagner Group in Africa just after trading the top Russian arms trafficker Viktor Bout, who was known in Africa as the Merchant of Death, to Russia in exchange for a lousy American POS activist athlete.
I agree.
While Russia had evidently nothing to do helping Trump win the election in 2016, that doesn’t make the Russians become angels in other areas.
Let’s not overshadow the fact that the Kremlin KGB guys excels in deceit, manipulation and infiltration. Heck, they are even beating “mean girls” in constructing elaborate intrigues to create infightings everywhere.
In Africa they have run a campaign of hate against French military presence there.
France did a wonderful job decimating radical islamic terrorist groups in Mali for example... but Russia successfully manipulated the government there in order to force the French out. China and Russia are recolonizing Africa, and gullible Africans have not understood it yet...

They’re just pissed that the Wagner Group is making chewing up the Ukrainians (and others) in Donbass and trying to move the focus to something else.
The REAL news recently in Africa is that South Africa, the ONLY country with some of critical minerals for the Neocon War Machine, has just pivoted to Russia...so life’s going to get tough for defense industry.
Oh, yea, there is one other country with similar resources to South Africa - Russia. I guess the Neocons can ask them pretty please to keep selling us their minerals, but I suspect they won’t be as willing as in the past.

So, Wagner has been contracted to train African military troops, maybe because they kicked axx in Syria vs ISIS, and are kicking axx in Ukraine.
Meanwhile the French are being forced to withdraw because they are hated, and the US hasn’t cleaned out any major terror groups since Africom was created.
Seems the US needs some cheese to go with that whine.
I thought China was making a play for parts of africa?
