Why Ford Is Done Selling The 2023 Maverick
slash gear via msn ^ | 1/10/2023 | Why Ford Is Done Selling The 2023 Maverick

Not everything is sweeter the second time around. Take the 2023 Ford Maverick, for instance. It's probably one of the top-selling vehicle debuts in Ford's history, barring the iconic Ford Mustang and Ford Transit van. According to Motor Biscuit, the 2022 Ford Maverick became an instant best-seller upon its debut, accounting for about 73% of U.S. vehicle sales in 2022.

However, the COVID-19 pandemic, burgeoning supply chain issues, and impending recession spell trouble for production, and Ford made that clear when it suspended orders for the Maverick in early 2022.

Talk about dousing cold water on a rising bonfire.

..."Ford cannot keep up with the demand for its all-new Maverick — an affordable, versatile, rugged, and sweet-driving hybrid compact pickup truck — hence the suspension order"...

The sedan came in two and four door versions.

I think it was 69, but it could have been a 70. It was originally my oldest brother’s car. It got passed down to each of us siblings as we reached driving age. I was 5th of 6. And after I graduated college, I was given it again as I started my life in the “real world”. I took it out to Texas (from Tampa) and within a year it needed a new transmission. Easily had 200,000 miles on it. I was sad and happy at the same time. We sold it for $200 if that. It needed way too much work for me, single and away from family. But that car got me from here to there and taught me a lot of car lessons on the way.

Tom Cruise doesn't have this problem.

They are selling too good and lots of people like them. I think we should shut down production.

That’s the one. When/why did they change it into a pickup?

Anyone buying any Ford is buying a peck of trouble down the road.

Bought Ford products for years both cars and F150s. I was most happy with them. If Ford goes woke, Ford will go broke. Wife person likes her Nissans and they have been most excellent cars. Today I drive a Ram 1500 as the price was right compared to the F150. Both excellent pickups.

Odd note on gas mileage. My 1974 straight six Maverick got slightly less MPG than my new RAM 1500 at nearly twice the weight and more than twice the horsepower. These new engines powering our vehicles today are a marvel of engineering and computer chips.

That’s correct, but only moms wanted the 4 door version. 🙂

Pretty much is with updates

I have a hybrid escape in my parts lot with 514,000 miles on it. Courier had it.

It’ll start and drive if you ignore the rusted out rear shock towers (first gen escape design flaw)

Make no sense. If demand was so high then raise the price to cover the cost of production.

I remember when my dad bought his first mini truck, a 1980 mazda B2000. We lived in the country and had another bigger truck for farm duties, but my dad loved that little mazda. He couldn't believe a truck could get 35 mpg but his did. It wouldn't get out of it's own way but that didn't matter, he put a topper on it and could load boxes of files for his businesses. He typically drove about 100 miles a day between his offices and that little truck was perfect for that. Not everybody needs or wants a truck to pull 10,000 lbs and get 16 miles to a gallon. Many people just want something fuel efficient that'll allow them to haul a couple of bags of dog food or a couple of bicycles.

I suspect a $20,000 small truck was cannibalizing the sales of their $80,000 F150's so they shut it down to force people into the more profitable trucks. If Toyota comes out with a unibody small truck that gets 35 mpg or more it'll be a runaway best seller. The Tacoma was that (minus the unibody) but it kept getting bigger, heavier, with bigger engines until it costs as much and gets the same fuel mileage as a full sized truck. What's the point of it then?

A small inexpensive unibody truck with good fuel mileage that can haul 1000 lbs or so is a very practical vehicle for a lot of people. I was noticing while driving the other day that about 7 of every 10 vehicles on the road are now some sort of compact utility vehicle. There's a reason for that, they really practical for a lot of people's needs. A little truck like this is the same way.

My 92 Isuzu pickup was the best ever. Over 400,000 miles. Exhaust, brakes, oil changes, fuel pump, and ignition tuneup. Even original clutch.

You do realize they make the Hilux in both right and left hand drive?

I did not. It's a respectable truck, IMO.

My late ‘90s Ranger is still doing just fine ... If I had to replace it today, I would get a Taco.
