Not everything is sweeter the second time around. Take the 2023 Ford Maverick, for instance. It's probably one of the top-selling vehicle debuts in Ford's history, barring the iconic Ford Mustang and Ford Transit van. According to Motor Biscuit, the 2022 Ford Maverick became an instant best-seller upon its debut, accounting for about 73% of U.S. vehicle sales in 2022.
However, the COVID-19 pandemic, burgeoning supply chain issues, and impending recession spell trouble for production, and Ford made that clear when it suspended orders for the Maverick in early 2022.
Talk about dousing cold water on a rising bonfire.

I have no idea what a Maverick is. Decades ago it was a crappy little economy car.
Love to see the Toyota Hilux in the States again ... with a 6 speed manual and small 2.4L diesel.
The precise reason they discontinued the Ford Ranger. Ford felt they could force buyers to more profitable full size trucks and SUV’s. Hence the logic behind the Mavrick.
The old Mavrick was a bare bones beauty if you could get ahead of the rust.
My neighbor has one. Nice little vehicle. I’m happy with my ‘14 F150 FX4 with the 5.0 Coyote.
They are *very* popular in the Caribbean.
I always thought that Chevy designed the best looking trucks. Alas, those days are over.
My opinion is that they are targeting Hispanic drivers with the recent designs.

Tried to order a Maverick from a Ford dealer twice. Once the first year, and once last fall. They told me no. I will gladly take my money elsewhere and never darken their door ever again.
The hybrid Escapes they ran in the taxicab fleet in NYC typically ran 400,000 miles with minimal problems.
If this is a similar package, should go a LONG time.

You’re thinking of a Toyota Tundra, Nissan Titan, or Honda Ridgeline.
I have a difficult time telling all the full-size pickup brands apart they really aren’t that much different from each other.
The Honda of course is much different basically a unibody SUV with a pickup bed instead of third row seating.

The explanation Honda gives is they wanted to build a pickup truck for those Honda buyers who didn’t want SUVs.
People in my area love Ridgelines. The local auto dealers can’t keep new or used ones in stock.
I was lucky enough to get a Maverick, sort of by accident because it was returned with 22 miles by somebody who felt it was too small for him.
I love it and I didn’t think anything could ever replace my 2004 Tacoma (which had been flooded and was needing too many repairs).
It’s very speedy and handles almost like a sports car. It’s got enough space for my needs and is comfortable for passengers.
When I got it, they told me the order book for 2023 was not open and would not be open to March of 2023.
So now I guess it’s never going to open?
Starting to get offers out of the blue for my 86.5 Nissan Hardbody 116k miles 5 speed manual. Offering hundreds, little do they know that comparable mini pickups are selling for 7K+ on eBay Motors. So no sale.
You do realize they make the Hilux in both right and left hand drive? What do you think they use in Europe (outside of GB)?
