Why Ford Is Done Selling The 2023 Maverick
slash gear via msn ^ | 1/10/2023 | Why Ford Is Done Selling The 2023 Maverick

Not everything is sweeter the second time around. Take the 2023 Ford Maverick, for instance. It's probably one of the top-selling vehicle debuts in Ford's history, barring the iconic Ford Mustang and Ford Transit van. According to Motor Biscuit, the 2022 Ford Maverick became an instant best-seller upon its debut, accounting for about 73% of U.S. vehicle sales in 2022.

However, the COVID-19 pandemic, burgeoning supply chain issues, and impending recession spell trouble for production, and Ford made that clear when it suspended orders for the Maverick in early 2022.

Talk about dousing cold water on a rising bonfire.

..."Ford cannot keep up with the demand for its all-new Maverick — an affordable, versatile, rugged, and sweet-driving hybrid compact pickup truck — hence the suspension order"...

Certainly government type solutions to private industry problems. Draw your own conclusions there.

Anyone buying any Ford is buying a peck of trouble down the road.

There is an awful lot of buzz on the Internet about Toyota coming out with a new small pick up truck that will blow the Maverick out of the water.

Especially since Ford cannot even compete with the demand.

There is an awful lot of buzz on the Internet about Toyota coming out with a new small pick up truck that will blow the Maverick out of the water.

It's called the Toyota Hilux, and it's sold almost everywhere else in the world but here, because we drive on the left side of the vehicle, instead of the right.

I saw a bunch of Hilux's while in Antigua a month ago.

The real reason is Ford doesn’t make much $$$ on the Maverick. Same reason they stopped selling cars is the same reason they are stopping the maverick.

I’d love a Toyota hilux.

...compact pickup truck...
Compared to full sized vehicles, compacts generally have much tighter profit margins.

Over the years, Ford has cancelled many models because of this, even though they had decent sales numbers. Add the supply chain issues and it makes perfect sense.

...the 2022 Ford Maverick...accounting for about 73% of U.S. vehicle sales in 2022.

Now that is impressive. If three-quarters of all US sales are Ford Mavericks, then why haven't I seen one?

No, it’s not the Hilux. It’s going to be a pick up truck based on the Unibody RAV4.

Hyundai has the Santa Cruz, and Ford has the Maverick; based on a SUV chassis. Toyota is supposedly going to do the same thing.

I hope the Toyota one is better looking than the “Maverick” and the Santa Cruz, becuase both of them are butt ugly vehicles.

We’ve had two Expeditions, two Explorers, our daughter had an Explorer. The only Fords that gave us troubles are three Escapes owned by our kids. But two of the three have gotten the troubles behind them and are very happy with them. Several of then have hit 200,000 miles with no major problems.

One daughter sold her troublesome Escape and bought a Subaru Outback which she hates.

I would too, but it is not the Hilux that might be coming back. See post 11.

Butt ugly is subject to one’s opinion.

But when you look at a new Chevrolet or GMC full-size truck, butt ugly is an actual fact. Without doubt.

Yeah, that line makes zero sense. The F-150 outsold the Maverick by 10 to 1. At less than 50,000 sold, it is almost certainly Ford’s lowest selling truck. Maybe they are comparing it to the niche compact unibody truck market, against unknowns like the Hyundai Santa Cruz and Honda Ridgeline.

The one I drove was a spicy red color. I believe it was a 1969 but could be wrong on the year, maybe a 70.
